Some problems with Win8 + Maximus VI Formula

Hey guys,

Did an upgrade on my computer, installed everything, Maximus VI Formula motherboard, Intel CPU i7 4770 Socket 1150 Haswell Processor, used my SSD drive from previous windows 8 installation. I am doing a fresh install of windows 8 but the first problem i encountered was my SSD drive kept disappearing from bios.

I restarted it was there exited after changing boot sequence, DVD first then SSD drive 2nd. Tried to install windows 8 said i couldn't on this drive and I had to change something in the settings in bios. Tried it all again and eventually I managed to install windows 8.

Everything went fine go into windows installed the drives that came with the ASUS board (on CD) and restarted a few times. After the completion of the installation of the drivers, I restarted once more but this time I got BOOTbcd error. Now I cannot enter windows, repair fails I tried everything. Sometimes I restarted the PC only the DVD drive is there and not the SSD. I have to power it off and it's then back again.

I can do a complete refresh of the PC via windows 8 CD or format and re-install again but I don't know if I should use the CD drivers that came with the board and download them instead. I don't know if this is causing this Bootbcd error. May see if the computer goes into Win8 after restarting/shutting off the PC a few times without installing the drivers from the CD and see what happens.

I am at work so I cannot provide all the info you guys may need but I just wanted some help to help me setup the bios properly and to install windows 8. This is driving me crazy right now.

Welcome to the forum!

I would suggest installing the updated drivers from the ASUS support site, not from the CD.
Make sure that the SSD is connected to one of the Intel SATA ports.
If still not showing up in the bios, clear the CMOS or even try using another SATA III cable.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply, I am using my own cables not the ones that came with the board which I am going to do tonight. Also I pluged in the drives in the top 3 SATA ports not the bottom two. My dad took a look at the PDF manual and said the top 3 are RAID and my SSD isn't a raid drive. So we are thinking that is what is causing the BOOTbcd error. I will also use the drivers on the site as you mentioned rather than the CD

Hello

What is the model of the SSD?

Can't remember but it's (from the top of my head) OCZ Vertex 120gb. The other (normal) SATA Drive was doing the same thing, disappearing and then re-appearing after restart/shutdown. I then disconnected it while I tried to install Windows 8 64bit. The DVD drive is working fine, I think putting the cables on RAID sata ports is causing this.

In red is where i put my main drive and 2nd drive in, blue is DVD drive can you tell me if this is right?

Hello

Is this a Vertex, Vertex 2 or Vertex 3? The Vertex 2, like all other drives that use the SandForce 12xx/15xx controllers, is not compatible with the Haswell platform.

The top three sets of SATA ports are the Intel ports, all SSD's & HDD's should be connected to these.
Since you probably have a SATA III SSD, please use the SATA III cable that came with the motherboard.
Also, look for a firmware update that may have been issued for your particular OCZ SSD model.

Thanks NemesisChild for confirming the SATA ports for me, at least that is right. I will use the motherboard cables that came in the BOX, I'll also update firmware for the hardrive and use the drivers from the ASUS site.

I'll find out now, let me check my receipt in my email when I bought this

Here is the drive

"OCZ Vertex 2 Series - Solid state drive - 120 GB - internal - 2.5" - SATA-300"

Is this a Vertex, Vertex 2 or Vertex 3? The Vertex 2, like all other drives that use the SandForce 12xx/15xx controllers, is not compatible with the Haswell platform.

Great 😞 I have to buy another drive then?

Thought i'd update on the situation, I bought a new SATA III 256gig SSD for around 150 and all is fine now 😄

All my other SATA drives are working fine too with all my stuff on it so that is a good sign

Thanks for your help!
