Some Overclocking Assurance

Well to begin, I've been overclocking for quite some time now. So I'm not totally new the the OC scene. My RIG before my current one consisted of a EVGA X58 SLI board with a 920. Now as you all know that didn't have an unlocked processor, so overclocking my current 3820 was a breeze since I knew fairly well how to BCLK OC.

Now the point of this thread is to just confirm with the community to see if my voltages are within a good limit so I don't see any rapid degredation.

My setup contains:
Asus Rampage IV Formula
Intel i7 3820 @ 4.625GHz
Corsair Vengeance @ 2000MHz
2 x EVGA GTX 580's 3GB @ 850MHz
Corsair AX1200
Corsair Force GT 120GB
Complete custom watercooling system

Here is a quick Voltage summary:

CPU @ 4.625

BCLK : 125MHz
VCORE : 1.36
DRAM(BOTH AB/CD) : 1.555
VCCSA : 1.185
VTT : 1.1625
2nd VTT : 1.05099
PCH(1.1) : 1.1
PCH(1.5) : 1.5
VTTDDR(BOTH AB/CD) : .8

My temps don't ever go over 67C at load and idle around 30C, but that is only because my ambient temps are around 30C.

Everyone always just says "read the guide". I've read the guide. I already have a good amount of knowledge of what that feature does, but no where does it say where to set your voltage. When using offset do you first set your voltage in manual mode and then switch over the offset or is the voltage automatically chosen for you?

Now in that guide that I have linked above, Raja clearly shows where and how he set it all up. So I am a little confused by your response. You either select manual or you select offset.

Yes I have read that guide. It states that you have to find out your stock auto voltages at the clock that you wish to use the offset voltage on. Now my problem is that no matter what I change it to, I can never be sure that the stock voltage will stick.

My experiences have given me the results of either undervolting too far and not being able to get into windows or I'm overvolting way too far and getting around 1.45-1.5 volts when into windows.

I've gone ahead and recorded the voltages that are present under the "Auto" selection. Which I would then have to put in a "-" and a value of ".1" for the offset, but again I keep getting the results I mentioned above.

When you try to do the offset overclocking, what are your other settings in the BIOS? What power plan do you have set in OS? You will need to have all the Intel power saving stuff enabled. In OS you should select the default option.

For example I use the +.0300 in offset.

Lets see what happens if we do this, F5 to set defaults. Then navigate to the voltage and key in the + 0.0300 offset.

What do you get in OS when you open CPUz?

I have all the power savings settings enabled. I set the offset to auto to see what intel would set the VID at and in windows I was hitting 1.448, but i still wasn't throttling down at all(voltage wise). I tried setting the offset to +.03 and -.03 but i couldn't get into windows with either setting.

Out of interest what is your default voltage for your CPU at stock? It might just be that you need a touch more voltage to be stable at your desired frequency.

I'm just confused about the whole throttling issue. My clocks throttle fine, but the voltages are always the same.

Here's a link to my settings. I was able to get my voltages to throttle, but now I can't get into windows with these current settings. Stock idle Vcore is 1.040 and load is 1.232.

I will spend some time with my board and offset clocking and post back later tonight, or tomorrow morning. Just after 9pm here. 🙂

BCLK is set to the 125 strap that has implications for some of the Intel setttings that we depend on.

Please use the 100 strap.

I tried messing around with the 100 strap, but my current settings won't allow me to run my speeds where i need them to with a 100 strap. What is the big difference?
