Hi,

This problem is driving me crazy. I have a newly built machine with the Intel 4770K using a Maximus VI Extreme motherboard running Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit fully patched with the Windows high performance profile set and i am stuck at 800MHz and a multiplier of 8. I've tried turning off all the power saving options in BIOS and setting the multiplier to 35 manually but when I boot into Windows I am back too 8x @ 800MHz. I have also tried loading the BIOS defaults as well with same result. I've run Prime95, Geekbench 3, and others and nothing makes this budge. I also ran the Intel Processor Diagnostic Test and it claims everything passes. RAM is 32GB Kingston and also passes Memtest86. My motherboard is running 0804 BIOS.

I am at a total loss on how to get this CPU out of 800HMz. Any ideas on what I might be missing? Do I have a defective 4770K?

I should also mention that I have even tried uninstalling all of the Asus software utilities but no difference. Still stuck at 8x multiplier at 800MHz.

Welcome to the ROG forums, Atlantis852.

Here's a checklist for you to try.
1. Please verify that Slow Mode is disabled both on your motherboard and on your OC Panel.

2. Run the AI Suite III Cleaner in Safe Mode to remove any leftover services.

3. Load the optimized defaults. Clear your CMOS. Reflash your BIOS with the 0804 version using the USB BIOS Flashback procedure. Clear your CMOS again. And load the optimized defaults.

Hi Chino,

The switch on the motherboard is set to off. How to check it on the OC panel?

btw, I have fully removed the Asus software and run the cleaner utility.

Pop off the cover and there should be two switches that are close together. The Pause switch and the Slow Mode switch.

Thanks. It is all working correctly now. Turns out that the two switches in the OC panel device were on instead of off. Now that I have them set to off, cpu behavior is back to normal.

Mine is a Maximus VI Formula and I have the same problem, but cleaning the AI suite did not solved the problem.
What else can I do?

I just flashed the bios and wiped all the asus software and worked.
Why does this happen?
Thanks.

It happens because the bios can get corrupted, why a bios can get corrupted? Well that is a whole different story and there are just to many variables that can do that, static is one of the main causes by the way.

Bottom line is I am pleased you are sorted.
