[*SOLVED*] Question about Maximus V Formula and PCI-e SSD Compatibility

Hello everyone,

I am looking forward to the new Samsung 960 Pro PCI-e SSD coming out next month and I am wondering if this device will work
flawlessly on my current motherboard, which is a Maximus V Formula with an i7 3770K processor, Asus Geforce GTX 1070 OC STRIX video card,
and a 1000W power supply (OCZ fully modular, 80+ gold, forget model #)
I currently have an OCZ Agility IV SSD plugged into the SATA III (6GB) port and I am looking forward to this performance upgrade if it is possible.

Thank you for any insight that can be provided on this topic.

Hi Haximus

I would say likely not as you'd need a bios version that supports NVME.

Nate152,

Thank you for your input. I didn't realize NVME was what I was looking for, thank you for pointing me in the right direction.
I researched this further and found this post online, I will post it here for reference and mark this post solved.

ASUS never added NVMe support in UEFI BIOS to any of their Z77 chipset motherboards. September 28, 2014 was the last time they released a BIOS for a Z77 chipset motherboard.
No NVMe support for Z87 chipset motherboards either.
NVMe support in UEFI BIOS arrived in early 2015 beginning with the Z97 chipset motherboards.
