Slow Windows 8 Bootup times

SOLVED

Have played around but to be honest I really dont know what most of the stuff does. Looked in the manual and well its over my head. What I want is to improve machine performance especially start-up. Every time I change things they just seem to make it slower to
boot. Just did a new purchase of a SSD card and new GPU ( asus gtx980 ) hoping amongst other things they would speed up the boot.
Actually it seems slower........

Ok, how do I make a lean fast boot. Thinking of disconnecting the DVD drives as I rarely use them ...would throw them out but then something would come along with me needing them but maybe just remove the power and connectors.

This is my system for drives..... have a new 500GB Samsung SSD with Windows 8.1 on it connector slot 0, a Corsair 240GB SSD in connector slot 1 and the WD Black 2TB drive on another connection. Would it be best to separate the 2 SSD drives ( slots 0 & 1 sgashare bandwidth ??????? or share something ???????...I dont know ) ..basicially so they are next to each other and not on top of each other.......

Basically only want or need the Samsung SSD to bootup and have tried making this the only one but somehow it dont work like I hoped.....

How can I get this machine to boot quicker ...... and I mean before it starts to boot into windows and the blue windows appears on the screen. Sometimes it can take for ages ( well over 30 seconds ) before the asus logo screen disappears ......

Hi. I have a 4770k and it takes me about 10 seconds to boot to the Windows desktop from power-off
with a Samsung Pro SSD on the Intel SATA port 0 and a slow old HDD on port 1 with Windows 8.1.
When I restart it takes about 5 seconds from the ASUS logo shows up to the desktop is usable.

I am not an expert on this but here is some of my settings from the main Boot menu in BIOS:

Fast Boot: Enabled
Sata Support: Boot Drive
Hardware Fast Boot: Enabled
Boot Logo Display: Auto
POST Delay Time: 0 sec
CSM > Launch CSM: Disabled
Secure Boot > OS Type: Windows UEFI
Boot Option #1: Windows Boot Manager

Wrether you can disable CSM or make other changes may depend on your hardware and OS.
Please take a backup of your BIOS settings before you change this. Your OS may not boot successfully afterwards.

Also consider to flash to the latest BIOS if you haven't so. I have seen improvements in the boot process from the old ones.
Remember to reset to default settings after you update BIOS (but then your backup from the old one may be invalid).

Regarding the SATA ports for SSDs I would definitely use the Intel ones and not the ASMedia ones.

thanks, will go and give this a go

Its things like CSM that confuses the hell out of me...like what does it mean and what does it do 🙂

Did you do a UEFI installation of Windows 8.1?
All drives, especially the SSD drive with the Windows should be connected to the Intel SATA III ports.

UEFI installation ??????? no idea

Disabling CSM was a bad idea as it wont boot into windows...get an error message and then had a few reboots , was worried I had killed it for a while so reloaded optimal settings and then disabled onboard sound

I think I will just sit back and not worry about bootup times.......

UEFI installations allow for faster boot times, google it for more info.

Hi there
Have you a load of USB devices inserted into the system at boot. Sometimes - especially USB drives -- cause the BIOS (rather than Windows itself) to spend some time while it detects the USB hardware and initializes its routines. It's best (unless booting from a USB device) to remove all USB devices except keyboards / mice.
