Single Card GPU in Second PCIE slot in RIVE Board

Hi All,

I just recently purchased a RIVE board and had a quick question: I have a Corsair dominator airflow fan that from other pictures, it looks like the the RAM fan will obstruct putting a single card GPU (in this case a 680gtx) in the very first slot. I looked online at the RIVE manual, and it seems that the only two x16 slots are slots 1 and 4. I'm hoping I am misunderstanding something as the mobo specs details 4x PCIE 3.0 x16 slots. If the RAM fan obstructs the entry of the GPU, would I be able to put the GPU in the second slot and run at full/optimal performance + speed?

Thanks,

i don't think you could ever run more than two at x16 since you don't have the lanes... 16*2 = 32 ... with 40 lanes max you wouldn't have enough for a third x16

as the manual shows if you populate all the slots it would be x16/x8/x8/x8 ... == 40 lanes

If your using a single card you can use the third red slot from the CPU for full X16 bandwidth.

Thanks!

so i'm guessing using Slot 2 is not the correct slot if running a single card. Only slots 1 and 3 would be optimal for x16, correct?

Sorry for the clarification question 😞

That is correct - I run my card in lane 3 and it is x16
To help us help you - please provide as much information about your system and the problem as possible.

Thanks!

So I will be running my 1 680gtx in the third slot then to get the x16 performance/speed.

Am i correct in thinking there will no modification to the BIOS necessary?

Thanks
