second graphics card undetected maximus v extreme

Hi,

I recently purchased the maximus v extreme to allow my two gtx 680 dc2t cards which are three slot cards to have some breathing room between them by putting them in slots 1 and 3. Everything worked fine for the first day but the next morning in noticed that the second graphics card isn't being detected by the board although the card's fans are spinning and power leds are green. I know this as only one light on the pcie lane switch is on(lane 1) and the device is also not detected in windows. The card is detected again after reseating the card, or by switching the two cards around, but the problem seems to occur every morning. Can anyone offer me any advice? Do I have a faulty motherboard?

Thanks

not sure about board RMA yet, possible, but not sure about probability yet.

is there any chance, you could try a single card in PCIe_3 and see if it runs and can survive through restarts?

also which BIOSes have you tried? try as low as 704 or 1309, go through all of them if you have to, I'm pretty sure 680 SLI could be a BIOS issue actually and it was supposed to get fixed in one release (1408?), but someone complained that it didn't work right for him in next ones like 1501 or 1604.

Or an alternative would be to take out the motherboard and put it on top of the box it came with or on a testbench if you have one. And test it out there.

As you both mentioned and from the results of your tests, it can be a physical problem. Since these are 3 slotted cards after all, they weigh quite a bit. And having two of them can put some strain on the motherboard. It's possible that the second one isn't in place. Even with 1 contact not being in place, your GPU won't be detected.
