second graphics card undetected maximus v extreme

Hi,

I recently purchased the maximus v extreme to allow my two gtx 680 dc2t cards which are three slot cards to have some breathing room between them by putting them in slots 1 and 3. Everything worked fine for the first day but the next morning in noticed that the second graphics card isn't being detected by the board although the card's fans are spinning and power leds are green. I know this as only one light on the pcie lane switch is on(lane 1) and the device is also not detected in windows. The card is detected again after reseating the card, or by switching the two cards around, but the problem seems to occur every morning. Can anyone offer me any advice? Do I have a faulty motherboard?

Thanks

I recently upgraded from a sabertooth z77 where the graphics cards worked fine. I'm using the stock bios at the moment.

I would toggle the lane switch a few times as maybe that is getting stuck.

I have updated the bios to 1604.. I hope that fixes things. I notice that removing the power plug from the psu for a minute usually fixed the problem too.

Okay the issue has not been resolved. It happened again after restarting my computer.

after flashing to new BIOS, you should also power it down after it boots up the first time and asks for F1 to correct CMOS checksum, press Clear CMOS (button at rear I/O) for 20 seconds, then boot up and Load Optimized Defaults (F5), Save & Reset (F10) and go from there. it should be OK.

also a note on all newer MVE BIOSes above 704 when running Legacy Boot (non-UEFI boot), you may sometimes experience CPU multiplier sometimes not kicking in at some clocks, especially above 47x, just Clear CMOS again, Load Defaults and it should be good ... for a while 😉
Interestingly, in UEFI Boot mode I seem not to have this problem anymore ... so maybe new BIOSes are tested purely in UEFI mode with Windows 8 (most latest stability improvements are in that matter I believe), while sacrificing some stability in non-UEFI mode ...

wondering if you had your issue at all in UEFI boot mode (requires OS re-instalaltion on GPT) with Secure boot ...

When the card's not being detected, I notice the lane 3 indicator flash for a split second then remain off as it boots windows. Physically pushing the card down sometimes also helps it to be detected too. I'm beginning to think that the problem might be a physical problem?
