SATA 6Gb/s ports working intermittently on RIV Formula

This is a board that was purchased late June of this year.

I first noticed this issue when the board first arrived, but I guess I mistakenly narrowed it down to bad cables. There were issues with the 2 of the 4 drives showing in the BIOS, but after switching to a different set of cables the drives showed up. I moved on figuring problem solved.

This passed week I grabbed a few more large cap SSDs and moved drives around. The vanishing drives showed up again. After a bunch of the typical checks, I rebooted and 2 of the drives showed, but 2 didn’t. Some unplugging and replugging then 3 of the drives showed, but 1 didn't. I started to wonder if maybe I had some bad drives, but hooked up through USB all are in perfect working order, though, 1 has a couple thousand Interface CRC error counts, which reinforces the thought of a bad port.

After a bunch of rearranging and port changes, I finally got all of the drives to show. That is until I moved the case back into its spot. Another shut down and I decided to leave the cables plugged in, but pressed them in to see what would happen. I rebooted and they all showed up. Shut down again, pressed them in again, just to see what would happen, and sure enough, 1 of the drives didn't show.

So, you would say my assumption is correct in that I have a board with bad ports, or is there something else that could be causing this?

I was going to send it back to Amazon and exchange it for another, but that opportunity expired late August. Am I stuck with a board with bad ports? Also, this issue is on my main work computer, so seeing this resolved is a rather big deal for me.

Any insight?

Thanks
Ed

Your board is not doing what it should. I would suggest RMA the board, there is a sticky about North America RMA procedure at the top of this section.
