ROG Strix X570-E, using 2nd PCI-E x16 slot @x16

Hi,

my GPU completely covers up the motherboard fan.
So I thought I could move it to the second slot.
Unfortunately it runs at x8 only.
There is a M.2 SSD installed in M_1, however this shouldn't influence it
since it got a direct lane to the CPU right?
A review I found claims that the first and second PCI-E x16 slot has
a direct lane to the CPU.
How is it that the GPU runs at x8?

Thank you 🙂

Second slot only supports x8 mode. But there is no noticeable difference between x16 and x8 even you have a 2080ti.
I don't think 'PCH fan is covered by GPU' is an issue. In my test PCH temperature only decrease about 2 degrees after moving GPU to second slot...

It's an issue.

I have the same problem with my X570-F.

If I move the card to the second slot the chipset fan is inaudible and doesn't speed up hardly at all, with the GPU in the first slot it's the loudest fan in the case.

I would suggest nobody buy this board, and seriously consider fan placement before buying any X570 boards.

Actually, get B550 instead.
