This is for a Rampage IV Gene and Ivy-E 4820K
Had the usual problem of mobo LEDs saying '00', cpu LED lit, fans running, no screen activity.
Thought I had updated the BIOS with a CAP file on the USB key root etc, still no joy.
Ripped everything apart, reseated mobo, different ram, differemt video card, wiggled PSU cables, still no joy.
Then found HiVizMan's BIOS update notes:
Right I had a spare twenty minutes and time to update you all.
I pulled the board out and stuck it on my test bench.
Placed the 4820K CPU in the socket and fitted the cooler.
Downloaded the BIOS and extracted it to the root directory of the USB stick.
Renamed it to R4G it is already in the CAP format so no need to run the cap converter.
Put the USB drive in the bottom slot next to the ROG Connect button.
Powered the system on to ensure the CPU was not picked up. Q-Code 00
Powered down.
Cleared CMOS
Left my system on standby and pressed the ROG connect button for a slow count of 3
My usb stick started to flash and do its thing.
Took about 5 - 7 minutes to finish.
First power on updated the irog
I am now sitting in BIOS
BIOS loaded, CPU picked up and working.
Then I realised my BIOS update was taking 5 seconds, not 5 minutes.
So tried different BIOSes, no difference.
Eventually tried a different USB key and hooray, the BIOS update took 5 minutes.
After that, everything else worked fine as above.
So thanks HiVizMan - and if this happens to you, 2 things:
- your BIOS update needs to take minutes, not seconds
- if it doesn't, try a different USB key
Cheers, Judy
