RIVE wont start unless heated with hairdryer

I passed my computer over to my dad after having it for 5 years (the last 2 i hardly used the pc) and everytime he tries to boot it it wont boot. He seen on youtube somebody using a hairdryer on it which he tried and it worked. He has done this everytime and it has worked. When i used to use it on occasion over the last few years its always booted without a problem. The only thing i did before giving it him was format a HDD and removed an SSD. The OS is on a different SSD which i left in.

Is it dead or is there something that can be done to fix this issue? I think he has tried replacing the battery on the mobo but that didnt work.

The specs are hx1050 psu (which has been tested and is working), 3930k standard clocks, h100, 16gb ram, r9 390 gpu, RIVE mobo and a few ssds/hdds.

Any ideas would be great, thank you.

Hair Dryer?
Thats a new one on me.
Can you share a little more as in the rest of the specs and exactly what happens when it doesnt boot and when it does?
Any error codes?
Does it just not do anything or fail to load the OS?
Does it try to load the OS then get a windows fault?

Would love to help you finish the puzzle, just need more pieces.....

“Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity, I'm not sure about the former” ~ Albert Einstein

Yupp a hairdryer, i thought he was winding me up at first then i seen the video.

Haf X case, RIVE motherboard, 3930k cpu, 16gb g-skill ddr3 2133mhz ram, h100 cpu cooler, corsair hx1050 psu, asus r9 390 frozr 5, 120gb corsair ssd with win 7 on, hybrid 2tb hdd (think its seagate) and a 500gb maxtor hdd. oh and 5 case fans (4 x 200mm and 1 x 140mm).

The lights are on on the motherboard but when you press the power button on the case or the motherboard nothing happens lol, literally nothing. no sounds or lights. When it does boot it boots normally straight to windows. No error codes, it cycles through them on the motherboard like it should then goes to AA. Think ive answered the last 2 at the start.

Thank you

Have you tried reseating the H100 cold plate with fresh compound? Sounds like the culprit to me. Also reseat the CPU fan connections from the H100 pump block to the board header.

I have heard of this in very humid climates, if that is the case the system may need a good cleaning, dust holds moisture creating shorts or grounds, drying the moisture removes the short or ground
a possible solution dry the board thoroughly, use a can of spray electronics cleaner that drys without leaving any residue and safe on plastics, etc.

He took it apart and gave it a good clean as he didnt have any thermal paste on hand and it seems to be working (touch wood). Ill update if anything changes and let you know what works. Thank you
