RIVE powers up then powers off.

Just my luck my board dies the same day I get 2 290x GPUs. The computer ran fine all day benched for an hr tested my GPUs. I go to boot to test out some BF4 and my mobo powers on and then powers off after a second. This is my second board that has died and the Asus rmas are very painfull from my experiemce. Last time I was sent 2 bad boards during my first rma. Finally they decide to send a new in box just to die 4 months later. I tried 2 power supplys, I tested my existing power supply on my miming rig and it booted. The CPU is fresh , about 3.5 months old. I am debating on the Black edition and selling my rma replacment but I am thinking about jumping the asus ship. 😕 I will miss you offset voltages.

Which POST code is displayed before the board powers down?

I get post code 14, pre memory cpu initialization started. I tried flashing the BIOS but for some reason it will not flash using a USB in the white port? I also checked and reseated the cpu & tried other memory moduals. For about a week or so i did notice sometime my computer would just shut down right before windows loads. I also noticed the USB ports would act up and I would have to unplug my keyboard and mouse for them to work. Thanks for the reply.

A few things:

1) USB BIOS Flashback needs a FAT32 formatted drive with the correct filename.

2) Check all power connections. Did you use the 6 pin aux connector to supplement PCIe power when you added the second GPU? If not, check the ATX 12V connector on the board and the PSU and make sure the pins have not broken down from thermal failure.

3) Check with another PSU if you have one.

I have tried two other psu, the pins look fine plus thr cpu is water cooled and the temp have been fine. The board was working all day then it just stopped working. The board is dead I have been through this before.

I know asus rma track record, its horrible. Pegatron blows and the techs cant solder worth poop. I can already see my RMA is going to take months and I will get to test losts of DOA or borked replacment boards before i get one with without scratches, broken buttons, dead slots or messed up soldering job etc.

Why is Asus not registered with the BBB?

If boards are dying on your side like that - must be something that's not right. How do you cool the VRMs - any active airflow? Would even check CPU to be honest as code 14 suggests at least some of the pre initial checks do pass.

I answered your query regarding USB flashback above as well. We can only go by what you are willing to divulge in each of your posts. You may be angry about it, but it does help to structure one's posts and provide complete information. Something about the setup is likely fueling the board deaths. Would be wise to chase out what the cause is rather than sit on a merry-go-round.

You can go via the CLM team for an RMA if you wish to - might be a quicker route for you.

Just admit these boards have issues. A quick google search will lead you to the truth man. Multitudes of people with issues with the boards and ****ty rma experiemces from asus. Go read the customer reviews on new egg for the RIVE, abandon ship! Have a nice day.

Most of the time users won't admit what it is they are doing with the board, so I won't be admitting anything - it's the users that need to admit what they are doing. Pointless RMAing boards and making the same mistake over and over, so it's better to get down to what the config error is rather than fly off the handle and not answer posed questions. 🙂

If you haven't got anything good to say, or you're not willing to troubleshoot, don't bother posting anything back. We are not here to entertain those that do not wish to be helped even when offered it.

Holy crap Raja I have replaced every part but the CPU and MB. Come Monday when I get my replacment RIVEBE I will know. I have been building computers since 2002 and have been using them since the VIC20 so I do know my way around.

Edited to stay on topic by RAJA.

I am not discussing that (service complaints) with you. I am asking you for system setup specifics - if you cannot be bothered to provide the info, there is no point in keeping this thread open. I have posted in your other thread as well.

Two boards "dead" like this screams that something needs to be looked into on your side.
