RIVE - needs CLR CMOS to boot

hello,

looking for some advice on seeing if anyone else has this issue or some suggestions.

Background info.
1.) latest bios
2.) HW: CPU 3930K, 64 GB Corsair Dominator Platinum 2400Mhz, watercooled system, Corsair AX1200
3.) Everything was working fine for months, then suddenly this happened.

When the system has not been used for a while (eg. 12+ hours), the same bios configs either gets me.. 1.) black screen, 2.) system auto shutdowns after POST, and the LED show a "@" type of symbol on the left LED, and nothing on the right LED.

(has anyone seen this symbol before? I have not been able to find any info on this.)

When this happens, I do a CLR BIOS, and it then boots up fine. I set the Bios settings again, Default + NO OC whatsoever, and it POST fine to AA, and everything works fine. When I turn it off and perform a cold boot again, i have to repeat the CLR BIOS procedure again in order for it to work.

Power supply problem? BIOS problem? RIVE problem? RAM problem? any comments would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,
Patrick

Roll back to the 2nd last BIOS, the one that pre-dates IVY-E CPU support.

Thanks! you referring to 4502? 4403? 4206? as it seems that bios 4102 is the one that doesn't have any IVY-E support?

Does anyone know the detailed functionality that will be lost by reverting back to the old bios? Lost of RSTe in Bios?

much appreciated.

I suspect getting 64GB stable at DDR3-2400 might be fueling this issue for you as well.

Hello Raja,

Actually.. I'm just trying to get it running at stock speed 1333 without overclock. But I did do the BIG mistake.. which is 2 kits of 32 GB, rather than 1 kit of 64... If only I knew about the ROG forums earlier..

have you seen the "@" type symbol before? on the left POST LED? any recommended BIOS to use if I have a 3930K but still want to use some of the latest essential bios improvements?

thanks,
Patrick

Have not seen that code before...

Roll back UEFI to the last pre-IVY UEFI. If that does not help, try using just one memory kit as a debug (yes, even at DDR3-1333).

Hello Raja, are you saying that I should roll back to 4206 bios and stay on that version if I have a 3930K CPU? Just to let you know, I upgraded to the 4701 Bios yesterday, and had the same problems.. wouldn't boot on first try, and to CLR BIOS, to get it to work. But after a few hours, a cold boot would not get it booted up. Note, it worked before for a few months now, and this just started to come up.

Thanks!!!

Did not think that the @ symbol is possible, is there any chance you could take a photo of it for us please.
To help us help you - please provide as much information about your system and the problem as possible.

The "infamous" @ symbol on the left LED upon boot up... system works fine and goes away after 2nd complete power cycle.. (sometimes)... or 3rd... but CLR BIOS.. usually does the trick, and it will boot to AA under those circumstances.

Anyone have any idea on this? Sorry the photo is not very good.
