RIVE - best OC advice here or "General Hardware, Overclocking & Tweaking," forum?

Hello. I'm new to the forums, but I've been reading extensively. Just wondering, going forward when I have overclocking questions related to my Rampage IV Extreme, should I be posting here in this forum, or will I get better/more advice in the "General Hardware, Overclocking & Tweaking" forum via the main ROG forums page?

I just don't want to start off here on the wrong foot!

Thank you for fixing the title, HiVizMan! Arne: The Vengeance RAM? Well, I haven't had any apparent issues at stock speeds. I did run Memtest 86+ today with the XMP profile loaded (but all other CPU/power options at set at stock.) I tested the 32GB all together with XMP for 3 cycles of Memtest, which took 12 hours. No errors. I know there is discussion about running longer, but I think perhaps that's enough to move forward with CPU overclocking attempts. I am not going to try for high OC, as I don't think I won the processor lottery--my 3960X seems a bit finicky, and the sixth core always runs much hotter than the others 😞

Yeah, good stuff! That sounds OK....unfortunately there have been a lot of threads about vengeance not running well on X79 so I get a bit nervous...and running two kits together can give problems...but if your CPU has a robust memory controller then great!

There is often a hot core or two on these CPUs 10 degree difference is not uncommon....I have one that is 7 degrees hotter than my coolest.

As well as the written guides on here I quite like this vid for OCing.....he goes through the BIOS pretty well too... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kx2z07sFM2I....just keep an eye on temps especially your hot core and get a fan rigged to blow on the VRM..... really helps OCing...

Hey Arne..sorry in advance if this is noob question...There is an option to set your turbo ratio by 'Per core'...If I set my sixth core (which runs hotter than others) turbo ratio to 44 & others 48 will it help balancing my temps?
Of-course I am going to try this & see the results myself...but thought I should take your advice..

Hi Pratham! Another sweet system there!

This was my thinking too and I tried it once but my experiments were unsuccessful. I haven't done this recently with new BIOSes but when I tried it "per core" actually seemed to use more voltage and gave me higher temps and I have seen that confirmed by one or two other people....at least in the way I was trying to do it....with 4 cores at 4.6 or 4.8 and two at 4.5 or 4.4.
It was also less stable. But of course this was my CPU sample....you might have more luck....if you try it I'd be interested to know what your results are...

Oh and no "sorry" for questions on this forum! I only got to know what I know by asking the same questions at some point....and what I know is a small percentage of what I don't know!:)
