Rip 3930k?

Weird day here.....my rig has been BSODing every 5 to 10 minutes all day......loads of codes a bit of everything from 09C to 101 the whole range...

My question is, to those of you who have had CPUs die...do they die slowly and like this?

I have replaced RAM replaced PSU fresh installed on two different SSDs swapped out GPUs disconnected everything but mouse and keyboard......flashed BIOS changed BIOS chip.

So I am left with RIVE or CPU. RIVE is a couple of months old.....

Any other posibilities?

Thanks BearCat and thanks sandro c!! Ciao my friend...sorry to get you worried....but yes OCing has it's risks and in the hot more...

The BSODs just started yesterday morning.....the only benching I did was last week and the whole rest of the week and weekend it was running at my normal 4.6 OC....Monday morning blues took on a whole new dimension!;)

Today I have tried a third PSU and a third set of RAM and rolled back to BIOS 3504 where I have had only the occasional BSOD but all of them x101.....at stock only one shutdown.

So I am left with motherboard or CPU......in between shutdowns it runs just as it ever did so maybe a third possibility dirty power supply to the house? Anyone know if voltage spikes or drops can give you x101?

did this happen after you installed the new motherboard?

I know you a bit, and i dont think you have pushed your cpu that hard, i think cpu is ok..

Takes a lot to kill a 3930K

I think its somehow related to the new board, or surrounding factors..

your cpu is RIPE not RIP.. It just started to ease up.. ;o)

This is the new one I got three months back now....not a problem until now......

I have always been pretty conservative with voltage etc. I don't know what to think....all the BSODs today have been x101

will keep investigating....maybe have to flash a few BIOSes...etc.

Pretty bad if that's 2 RIVEs that have died OCing.....I thought that's what they were for?

2 times i have done fresh win installs on ny x79 boards, and both times BSOD (/&()&)(, and odd things..

The issue

1 time> faulty gpu
second time> another faulty gpu

i am not saying this is the cause, but sometimes the problem is in front of us all the time..

Regarding the faulty gpus, i am a sucker for cheap Auctions.. ;o)

i must have the RIVE of heaven.. 40-50 times have i removed the cpu, 2 times have it been under glycol/water (powered up).. Used the same board in around 15 builds.. INSANE.. Only getting better.. The same RIVE i have had all along, from day 1..

swap gpu
reinstall bios
use a HDD that you know working
and so on, basic stuff
same with software

Start from scratch, its a troll there somewhere..

It can be a really simple thing..

LOL 😄

I know what you mean that's why I have been doing so much component swapping.....today I have followed HiViz's advice and stripped it and rebuilt...tried one Titan...the other Titan....tomorrow I'llput in the GTX 460 I've got lying around...

But I have fresh installed win 7 and win 8 on separate ssds and the x101 has happened on both....

I'm trying running stock but with a positive offset and see if more voltage cures it....if so...it might be that the CPU is degraded....so far it is stable that way......

No, i am sure your cpu is NOT degraded (well they all are, but you know what i mean), it takes really dumb things to manage that, and you dont qualify..

Wish i could help you more

Still i think its related to the install of the new board or the new board itself, since you had non of these issues with the old board..

Hi Arne,

I think it is difficult that spikes voltage or drop, if not more than an hundred volts are able to cross and are influential on the outputs of the 3.3 volts or 5 volts in these high-performance power supplies swithcing, such as in our PC, ...those happening 80 years .... unless a fault on the low-pass filters but you have already replaced Pw. S.
The only case I know, is "the spike that did it was to 50-100 KV by lightning ... but it is not your case ... I hope!
Also I suspect a fault on the RIVE instead of the processor.

Well....I am solid stable at stock but with an offset of + 0.01.....this gives me 1.344v at 3.8GHz no crashes. 1.344 was what I was running 4.6GHZ stable at, just before this.

Is there any way this could be the board? I will have to send board or CPU back and I'm leaning to CPU....it will not run stock....I have the Intel insurance....but not sure if that is only for a dead chip....

I can send you a CPU to compare if you like.
To help us help you - please provide as much information about your system and the problem as possible.

HiVizMan...don't know what to say...apart from thank you of course....you are a star!.....you know I might take you up on that offer....it is really the only way I have of eliminating one or the other and none of the PC shops here stock this level of equipment or are friendly enough to try my cpu....

I am going to try a couple of BIOS flashes later but if that gives no result....
