Request for Help re: RAM for Rampage IV Extreme MOBO

I have the Rampage IV Extreme motherboard, and getting an i7-3630K CPU, and hopefully soon an ASUS HD7970-DC2T graphics card (or something else if AMD does not fix this card soon and get product out there).

I am trying to decide which RAM and how much I should get.

I plan the normal uses such as Internet, email, word processing, simple spreadsheets, etc. plus triple monitor gaming (including iRacing) and some photo shop and video editing.

I have read in various places that 8 GB should be sufficient for most needs; however, I am planning to use this new PC for many years and want to ensure I have enough for what the future may bring over the next 5 years. Installing 16 GB or 32 GB is my target as the additional cost for RAM is small at this time compared to the cost of the other parts.

I am interested in the G.Skill Ripjaws Z Series DDR3 2133MHz RAM in either 16 GB (4X4GB) F3-17000CL9Q-16GBZH or 32 GB (8X4GB) F3-17000CL9Q2-32GBZH. The Ripjaws site indicates both will work on this MOBO. However, the ASUS site does not list this RAM on the QVL.

I have read on some Internet sites that this RAM, being higher than 1600, will not work well with the MOBO, specifically because of the Intel chipset. I have also been told that if I use RAM higher than 1600 it could void the warranty. I am not sure what the "truth" really is. So ....

Should I buy this G.Skills Ripjaws Series Z RAM or get something else from G.Skill, Corsair, or whomever? Yes or no? Why or why not?

What do you recommend and why?

Thanks in advance for your consideration and inputs on this! 🙂

I am using it right now all 8 slots populated no problems all 32GB recognized running XMP profile perfectly 2133mhz no hassle no issues

the only issue is how to leverage this huge amount of ram I recommend looking into FancyCache throw like 8 GB at that and maybe 8GB in a ramdisk and you still have plenty left over
Rampage IV Extreme
3930k C2 stepping intel cpu
Gskill 32gb kit F3-17000CL9Q2-32GBZH
GTX 760
GTX 560ti
Areca 1882 Raid Controller
Crucial m4 SSDs 256gb two disk raid 0
Enermax 1350w maxrevo PSU

Thanks for the info on your experience Jobeo. Much appreciated. I will look into FancyCache and Ramdisk.

Have you heard of the Intel chipset issue as I mentioned in my original post? Or this just "rumour" and "old guys tales"? 🙂

I cannot speak of the intel chipset issue but I too am running this memory (F3-17000CL9Q2-32GBZH) in XMP mode @2133 with no issues.

Thanks Northernsprink and tadhp for your comments on your experience with this RAM.

I thunk I just may buy it and get my rig closer to completion. 🙂

My outstanding parts requirements are for the i7-3630K CPU, a 2 TB HDD, and a graphics card that can do triple screen eyefinity (e.g., ASUS HD7970-DC2T, or perhaps one of the just announced MSI Twin Frozr or Saphire versions of the HD7970 that have 3 identical monitor ports, perferably 3 DisplayPorts). I am leaning away from the ASUS HD7970-DC2T due to the problems with it and the absolute scarcity of it.

Well this is my set

4 x 4 gb for the quad channel. These run at 2133 without any problem. The only cons is the heat BUT you must expect it when you run it at 2133. So far, I have no problems and its a nice kit. 16GB is plenty for anyday use. Even when I

As for the GPU, i would wait for the nvidia kepler to be release(by the end of the month) The price should drop on the HD 7970 or you may even be tempted to get one of the Nvidia card. (this is what Im doing ....switching from a HD 5970+hd 5870 trifire setup to nvidia soon):)

these are only my 2 cent from my experience. This might save you a few bucks.

Hope it help.

I would also vote for the Gskill sets. No problems with any of the many kits I have used and tested.
