Removing vrm heatsink on motherboard

I have the Maximus VI Impact and a Zalman CNPS8900 cooler and it doesn't fit flush. Its either I lose 1 ram stick or take off the heatsink. Is it safe to do so?

Hello benparker

Are you able to use slots A2 and B2 for your ram? You don't want to take off the vrm heatsink.

I'm assuming that you have this problem:

Not much you can do, remove one stick or change the memory to a low profile memory that fits.

i wouldn't remove the memory heatsink, it's certainly possible, but only doable with the memory at low voltages and speeds.

About removing the VRM heatsink, i remember jj saying that if you're not overclocking then you could run the vrm without the heatsink, but it's not recommended and at your own risk

I'm gonna try playing around one more time tonight without removing the heatsink.
