Random No Signal - Black Screen - GTX 1080 + ASUS Rampage IV Black Edition X79

Hi guys,

recently (last 3-4 months) I have encountered an issue where my screen randomly (Windows desktop, playing games, watching videos) turns black with NO SIGNAL message. The only way to fix it is to restart the PC.
The PC is not crashing, you can still hear it working, the HDD led is blinking from time to time and all the fans are working correctly.
So far I have checked this and:
- It’s not the screen as it also happens when I plug the PC to my TV
- It’s not the GPU as it occurred with 3 different GPUs (2 different GTX 1080 and 1 GTX760)
- It’s not the cable as it occurs with both DP and HDMI cables
- It’s not the a particular nVidia driver as it occurred with few previous ones and occurs with the latest
- It’s not the OC as it happens when the GPU is almost idle with standard clocks
- Not the PSU as it’s a new Corsair 1000W
- Both power cables from the PSU are plugged to my Motherboard (in case someone would suggest that)
- My power saving options are set to Performance and hibernation/sleep modes are disabled
- Windows is fully up 2 date

I checked the Windows Event log and when the issue occurs it creates a Warning log with the info that the video driver stopped working and recovered (it looks like it`s not recovering though ).

PC:
iCPU: i7 4930k, 6 Cores, OC @ 4,5Ghz
GPU: GTX 1080
MOBO: ASUS Rampage IV Black Edition X79
RAM: 64GB G.SKILL RipjawsZ @ 1600Mhz, Quad Channel
MONITOR: Acer Predator XB270HU 27", 2560x1440, 144hz, G-Sync,
HDD: Kingston HyperX 240GB SSD, CRUCIAL M550 1TB SSD
OS: WINDOWS 10 PRO 64-Bit
PSU: CORSAIR RM1000x - 1000W
AUDIO: Sound Blaster ZxR

Any ideas? I’m not a noob user, building my rigs for over 15 years but I’m close to giving up on this on.
Any BIOS setting?!

Hello. Faced a similar problem. In general, after a long study of the question, everything was reduced to disabling the Corsair link. System: Asus Rampage IV Extreme 4930k - 4500 Mhz, Corsair 2133 - 16 Gb, SSD - Vertex 4, MSI Armor 1080 Ti, and Corsair AX1200i. Problems started after replacing GTX 690 on GTX1080 and reinstalling with Windows 7 on Windows 10.

Just want to chime in and bump this thread as it is definitely still an issue and it just started happening to my newly built computer as of a couple days ago, sometimes when gaming and sometimes even when I'm just browsing the internet using Chrome.

I have a GTX 1080 TI with an ASUS ROG Hero X motherboard running the latest 397.31 Nvidia drivers, and out of the blue now occasionally both monitors get a "No Signal" error, one of them HDMI and one of them through the GSync capable DisplayPort cable. The only thing possible at this point is a hard-reset as others on this thread have pointed out. The occurred completely randomly about 9 months after I built my PC, with no software or hardware changes to precipitate the change besides regular Nvidia driver updates.

I really hope Nvidia, Microsoft, and/or motherboard manufacturers can get together and figure this issue out, as replacing my brand new, fairly expensive motherboard seems like an insane solution given how much this brand new rig cost me.

Hello boys just want to add my bit it is not repeat it is not the graphics card in any way I have a rampage iv black and originally had 3 titan blacks in sli with win 7 pro no problems at all micro soft forced to upgrade to 10 couldn't stop it problem started changed to a new GTX 1080Ti still same random lose signal restart go all day.
Chane to RTX 2080Ti still same random lose signal restart go all day I am sure it is win 10 I have swapped mem, SSD every thing still same I always come back to win 10.
I have another syst with out inter conn running win 7 GTX 1050Ti no prob ever. Hope this helps you just have to keep restarting.

If anyone is still out there wanting this, then all I did was turn down my over-voltage on my gigabyte extreme engine software thing and over- power jobby, all set to zero and 100% respectively and ta dahhh my pc has ran fine now for a week.

This has cheesed my orrrf for a while now so if I hulped in anyway then your welcome!

ok so this worked for a week(why did it only work for a week I have no idea).

but I have a new solution,....this seems to be working, so all I am now doing is starting her up as usual then restarting after a minute and it stays on all day.

I have uninstalled reinstalled everything, bought every single piece of hardware again thinking I had issues but here I am again, it's crazy.

does it do it with windows 7? I cant remember

Sorry to bump an old thread but has any fix amounted from anything?, a possible bios patch in the works? or nvidia addressed the issue?
If not and nobody has found a definite fix, Probably best that we just go with a different card, does the 20xx line have this same issue?

Sorry for necroing, but i am in pure despair!!!!!!
I have a gtx 1080 ti Rog Strix OC and i am having the very same issue listed here, my motherboard is a Rog Formula IX, with G.skill memoryes (32GB @4200mhz). I was gaming like for a few minute on, then the screen goes black, my monitor shows no signal messsage, sounds keep on, and i cant alt+tab or ctrl+alt+del out of this, the only way is to reset the pc. Tried to turn the pc off, remove the cables, clean connectors, switch cables, switch exits, no avail. Can someone help?

Ok, as the Thread creator and what seem to be many other's problems with this motherboard, I have the following specs

Matched 4x8gb Corsair 2133mhh DDR3 (Been running 1333/1600/1866/2133mhz plus a multitude of different settings.
-Tried my GF's 2x8gb ADATA DDR3 modules too in multiple settings
I've been using SSD's from the day of purchasing this machine back in 2013, changed the system SSD at least once.
I've switched my HX850W Corsair PSU as I thought this could have been the problem, now using a brand new HX850i
Was using a i7 4930k Overclocked and not OC'd (have cleared CMOS in between)
-Now using Xeon 2697v2 CPU, running bios on Optimized defaults
I'm currently using a Nvidia GTX 1080FE, but was previously using Zotac GTX 1070 AMP!, have also tried with my gf's Asus Rog strix GTX 970 OC, Also tried a Radeon RX 570.

I've disconnected, changed and reconnected only necessary USB devices, Used to have an external USB 3.0 Hub, when I removed it, Computer ran flawlessly for over a week, but doubt it had anything to do with it.

I've always had problems with internally conntected (through USB) Corsair AIO's, Used to have a H100i, and every time computer "crashed" with the black screen but sound etc continues to run, I had to fiddle in bios (turn on Enabled or Auto on USB legacy mode) When Black screen comes now with my H150i, The LED fans go fro the set color scheme to the default rainbow scheme. If I'm streaming movies from THIS computer onto the TV for example, and this "crash" occur, it doesn't end the stream. I can watch it all the way through, at least it seem to be that way for the most part.

I've updated, and downgraded the BIOS, I've reinstalled windows probably 50 times on this setup, on different drives and even USB mem stick. I've got quite immaculate cooling (for being mostly air cooling) The black screen "crash" happens completely randomly, doesn't matter if I'm playing games, wathcing movies, browsing the internet, sleeping (so computer is idle) In fact, it's quite often "crashed" when I wake up in the morning.

I have always turned hibernation and sleep mode off completely, I've been running in High performance mode power setting, or Ultimate performance mode (changed through regedit variables) This motherboard has driven me completely nuts. The worst part is, I don't remember if it was like this from the beginning, I have a vague memory that it worked as it should prior to 2016 (before I changed my 2x 970 SLI setup for 1x 1070 GPU) But can't say for sure.

I'm obviously suspecting that the problem is a faulty Motherboard, but I can't say for sure, as It does seem stable from time to time, and if it's "breaking"/burning, I just can't see how it would still be the same and not totally collapsed by now, since it's been going on for years on end.

I'm about to rebuild my system in the coming week, so probably don't matter much. But I would love to know if this problem is fix'able or not, since it's been haunting me for so long.

literally all parts have been changed or temporarily changed/tested except the motherboard. Even the keyboard, mouse and monitor, even tried different PCI-E ports for GPU and much more.

cheers!
