Rampage IV Gene: no post, no codes

My 1 week old rig shut down for a windows update and didn't automatically restart. Tried manually restarting and nothing. Case fans and gpu fans spin for a half rotation and that's it. It's not lighting up the POST trouble code, but it is lighting up the LED's on the back and the Start and Reset buttons on the board, but that is it. I took the PSU out of my other rig and it does the exact same thing so i can rule out the PSU. It is out of the case now sitting on a rubber mat on my desk. I have contacted ASUS by phone and am waiting on confirmation of a replacement in stock to cross ship. He said I should have confirmation in 24-48 hours. It's been 60+ with no email yet. The mobo should AT LEAST light up the post codes shouldn't it? What do you guys think? Bad board? Thanks in advance.

I have inspected the socket for bent pins, they all look fine.
Inspected chip for any signs of shorting or burns. It looks brand new.
I have bench tested it with all 4 sticks of RAM, in each slot. No change.
Removed all peripherals not needed. No dice.
Everything was going great for a week or so, then BAM.

The first thing I would do is remove my cooler and CPU and have a quick look at the pins. Then remount your system.

What you are describing happened to me when my system cooler was not correctly seated. The CPU was too hot and kept powering down.

Not sure you Cooler is up to the task but as I have not tested that particular one with the CPU am only going on past experience. I use the same cooler on my SB system and it is great for that job. X79 is a whole different ball game I would think.
To help us help you - please provide as much information about your system and the problem as possible.

I have inspected the chip and pins in the socket, they appear brand new and uniform. My temps never got above 70c under 100% load and in the 60's during gaming, and it happened at reboot. It was a stable macine until that. It ran really well for a week before this happened with the temps being monitored pretty closely. (I am kind of anal about my temps).

Good to know mate I too have a thing about temps.

If your system does not recover after swapping from the A BIOS to the B BIOS - a 12 hour Clear CMOS then RMA your board.

Shouldn't the post code module at least light up? How do I try the bios swap when my board won't power up? And what is the procedure for the twelve hour cmos clear? Sorry if they are noobish questions. I do appreciate the help.

Is this possible on a Gene board? If so, I can't find any info on how to do it in the user manual. Care to enlighten me? I am going to try to flash the bios to 1201 using a flash drive and the ROG connect button method. And just for the record, does my board have a cmos jumper anywhere on the board? This troubleshooting guide I found says it does: http://support.asus.com/Troubleshooting/detail.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=1&m=RAMPAGE%20IV%20GENE&s=42&hash...

The BIOS swap will happen even if the board is not powered up. I have tested this myself.

And there are no noobish questions my friend. There are only questions. What are noobish are some of the answers that people give when folks are trying to get information. So you just ask what ever you want and don't worry about it.

Thanks again. As of right now, I am at work for the next 12 hours and my board is sitting at home with no battery. I still am looking for one answer however. Shouldn't the trouble code LEDs light up no matter what?
