I have Asus Sabertooth X99 and i have tha same problem except that in my case the 4gb are missing periodicallly.
For example i maybe start my pc 10 times and the memory will show all 16gb and everything will be ok. But 1 time it will boot (one time of 10~20 on offs) with only 12gb from 16gb.

Also when i start my pc and i see that the memory is 12gb from 16gb i shut down . Then i press the on button and voilla 16gb showing again for i dont know other 13 times up down? After Some reboots it will show again 12gb.... then all i have to do is to shut down and power on again. It will show 16gb....

I believe its the ram. (G.SKILL 2800mhz 1,20v quad channel) I reseted the cpu checked the pins all ok. I raised the DiDI + setting show i have more OC potential . I tried the ram with 1.35v also VCCSA raised voltage but nothing worked. After 10 to 20 on offs one time it fails to see 16gb...

I dont have the time to send my memory to G.SKILL so (as what the said) to give me new kit to try because i work editing in this pc.
I surely will try it because somethings wrong.... ANd also i cannot buy another 16gb quad channel DDR4 because its very expensive just to try if memory is the fault.

Bravegag,

I've done all of the above, plus I added extra power by using EZ plug 2 for memory. What debug code did you get when you populated D1? I got 66.

How did you get the full 16GB to show up? Did you put a module in one of the black DiMM slots?

I got my board from Fry's and because Asus said it was a memory issue, I had to order memory from New Egg. Long story short, I'm passed the 15 day return policy.

I can always have Asus cross ship me a new board, but I hate to tear down my righ again. This is my third Rampage IV.

Exactly, I got Debug code 66 and if I remember correctly some times 65.

Exactly too, populating the outermost slots i.e. mix of red and blacks. I also tried putting them all in the blacks as suggested by one of their support agents to circumvent the D1 issue and didn't work either, would lead to 66 too.

Exactly same here, I hate to tear down the rig again, with Noctua and all the crap. ASUS should refund the hours we spend troubleshooting their ****.

Sorry man, we are on the same bad deal with this board.

If that's your third Asus RIVE motherboard, JJavan, the answer is simply not the motherboard that is at fault here. Quit blaming ASUS for your installation failures... One Delta Ten Tango

Or how about you not talking out of your neck when you have no clue what your talking about. I just had my rampage board do the same thing after a little over a years worth of use. Why don't you google it, there are ALOT of people having this same issue.

And you know what asus reply is if you call for tech support? Oh, your ram must not be on the compatible list. What kind of tech support is that? That doesnt even make sense, why would non compatible ram would have 12 out of 16 gigs detected?

When I tried to ask the agent again blamed the ram, even though I have already RMA'd it, thanks again asus for wasting my shipping money on the ram. They then told me I would have to call in tommorow when the department that deals with ram overclocking was in. I got so mad I just hung up.

Went down to my local frys and picked up a msi x79 board that is almost half the cost, yet it detects all my ram just fine.

Wow, that is just unbelievable. I got the same codes too: 66 & 65. Tried the black slots, wouldn't post. The more I read your posts the angrier because ASUS is selling a defective board for $450.

Up until know I always bought EVGA boards, but their x79 offering got such bad reviews that I bought the Rampage IV, and now I'm stuck with it.

Yeah, I agree about paying us. It's bad enough that game makers have us troubleshot their games, because they don't do enough QA before release date, but when you have to troubleshoot a mobo that costs close to $500 (in fact, whatever the price) that's unacceptable.

I'm going to rip them on New Egg and see what they say.

ASUS has a FANTASTIC QC process.

I had 2 boards before I got one that worked, same issue.

Quantity over quality in Taiwan I guess.

Memory Slot C1 was borked in my first Board, very easy to diagnose and takes little time.
- First noticed it in the BIOS as 12GB only showing instead of 16GB
- Didnt even bother to install Windows at that point.
- Try each stick of Memory individually in each of the 4 Red Slots, once you hit the problem slot you will not even be able to Post to BIOS......simple!!!

RMA Board, got an email nack after testing my Board stating exactly what I found, Slot C1 borked.
Received 2nd Board and everything good to go!!

honestly guys, if your BIOS is only detecting 12GB of installed 16GB , dont even bother wasting time installing Windows and playing around, your BIOS SHOULD always detect the correct amount of RAM installed.

Ok I was going through the same problem. I thought damn I wasn't going to rip apart my rig just cause I was missing 4gb of mem. So I sat with the problem for months. I thought hey i was going try different memory and I ordered it. It came today. Before I put the memory I was messing with my overclock setting and changed cpu pll voltage from 1.9 to 1.555. I booted into windows and bam all 16gb of memory was there. i was like F_ck i just bought this 32gb kit and now I have this extra 16gb of mem. Anyway hope this helps check your overclock settings. Resetting to defaults doesn't help in this case cause i tried that. Seems when overclocking x79 when we push things too far we change things.

When setting the xmp profile ALWAYS check what voltage it sets the ram and vccsa.
Sometimes it sets it way to high which will cause instability and will degrade your components or even damage your cpu's built in memory controller.
