rampage iv extreme PCH fan issue, help!

hello everyone, this is my first post here, I really need some help with this issue and I hope someone with similar issue could provide some insight about this.
so after I took my pc apart for cleaning and re-applying the thermal paste on the processor, when I put everything back I noticed that the motherboard chipset fan (pch fan) was spinning at full speed, so I figured that because I disconnected the motherboard from the psu the bios resetted, so I went into the bios and made sure that the q-fan is enabled and the pch fan control is set to profile and to the lowest setting ( silent), after restarting the pch fan didn`t respond to the to the bios command and still spinning at full speed, which is very laud, i have tried all sort of solutions such as trying different version of bios, other fan profiles, disconnecting the pch fan header and connected it back, but nothing helped, whats really bothering me is the noise, this thing is really Lauder than all my fans in the case and is distracting, what I have also notice is the chassis fan-1 doesn`t report its connected into the bios or fanxpert, it just spins with no fan speed or anything, but apparently when I connect another fan it reports the speed which is weird.
p.s posted this issue in rampage iv extreme owners club but unfortunately got no responds.

I would appreciate if anyone facing similar issue even with different motherboard from different venders as this will help me determine what is causing the problem.

thank you all in advanced waiting for your replies.

Sent board away for RMA, got replacement. Works fine now. 😄

good for you, glad you got it fixed :), mine is still the same, but it doesn`t effect anything, and it won`t really mater if I watercool in the next few months, I even wonder what was the main reason behind adding a fan in the first place since it doesn`t effect the temps much, the funny thing is I almost sell it for like 300$ but then I had cold feet, I guess I got attached to it and I don`t want to sell it anymore, more like you ( you never know what you got until its gone ) feeling, I didn`t really saw spending more money to get asrock extreme 11 or even downgrading to the sabertooth x79, one guy recommended me to invest in watercooling since its worth it and it will completelly eliminate this fan issue from the equation. so this idea actually stock in my head 🙂

...my first post here 😛
I somewhat recognize this issue. I had it the first time cranked up my system after building it and if i remember correctly
there was a connection/molex not seated properly...
Check your connections and verify all are seated properly, maybe you missed something... just a suggestion 🙂

thanks for taking the time to help in this 🙂 would you please be more specific about the connection, are you talking about the fan connection or another connection ?

Well this is sometime ago on my first crank up on my build so i will try my best 🙂
...first i remember that i had my graphics card connected with 1x 6-pin connecting (didn't know then) when it needed 2x 6-pin
connection and the fans went full speed and very loud, until i connected the 2x 6-pin then the issue was solved.
But after i rebooted i could hear the PCH fan also going loud so i turned off the system again and check all connections and
found a few that weren't seated properly to the motherboard. Now this i'm not sure exactly what connector it was but after that i crank it up again and at that point the loud noise from the PCH fan was no more 🙂
Hopefully this gives you a hint on something, but i recommend you check that all connections are properly seated and also
check that you use the "right" connectors. 🙂

thanks alot, you kinda give me ahint about a how graphic card fans go to full speed when there is a power problem, so a motherboard might be similar, I will give this a try tonight and report back.

Was the issue resolved as I have a similar issue

unfortunately not, sold it with my computer case and other components and switched to an micro-ATX GTX 670 4gb SLI system with a rampage iv gene and a core I7 4820k, it was disconnected all the time and never had an issue when my case was well ventilated.

Such a shame, I think this is a bios error as they have addressed it once in the bios updates after the ivy bridge release, the bios indeed needs fixing its buggy

if your planning to keep the motherboard for another couple of years then seriously consider watercooling your system with a full water loop or the chipset and processor, won`t set you back more than 500$ and will run your system super cool and quiet. the only reason I havn`t done that myself is cuz I don`t live in USA so parts here aren`t available and god forbid something goes wrong I won`t be able to RMA anything. I think it`s a bios problem as well but I have been waiting for too long for a fix so I just unplugged it and moved on with my life.
