rampage iv extreme PCH fan issue, help!

hello everyone, this is my first post here, I really need some help with this issue and I hope someone with similar issue could provide some insight about this.
so after I took my pc apart for cleaning and re-applying the thermal paste on the processor, when I put everything back I noticed that the motherboard chipset fan (pch fan) was spinning at full speed, so I figured that because I disconnected the motherboard from the psu the bios resetted, so I went into the bios and made sure that the q-fan is enabled and the pch fan control is set to profile and to the lowest setting ( silent), after restarting the pch fan didn`t respond to the to the bios command and still spinning at full speed, which is very laud, i have tried all sort of solutions such as trying different version of bios, other fan profiles, disconnecting the pch fan header and connected it back, but nothing helped, whats really bothering me is the noise, this thing is really Lauder than all my fans in the case and is distracting, what I have also notice is the chassis fan-1 doesn`t report its connected into the bios or fanxpert, it just spins with no fan speed or anything, but apparently when I connect another fan it reports the speed which is weird.
p.s posted this issue in rampage iv extreme owners club but unfortunately got no responds.

I would appreciate if anyone facing similar issue even with different motherboard from different venders as this will help me determine what is causing the problem.

thank you all in advanced waiting for your replies.

For 1404 you can flash to an earlier bios http://event.asus.com/2012/mb/USB_BIOS_Flashback_GUIDE/ renaming the bios file R4E.ROM

If you have run the CAP converter you can flashback to a 1.xxx BIOS (from 2003 onwards) by renaming the BIOS file ERALL.ROM...

thank you for the quick reply,

I will certainly do that as soon as I get back home, maybe it will fix the problem, thanks for the info it was very informative.

Im having the same problem with PCH fan running at full speed, can't control it in the BIOS?

glad to know am not the only one with this issue, care to tell me when did this happen and what was the probable cause, for me it was when I removed the motherboard from the case for a stuck screw, then installed everything back and the pch fan runs full speed ever since.

It's run at full speed since I've had it which is about 4 months. I tried to adjust it a few days ago and It does'nt respond to anything I do, just runs full speed around 5800 RPM?

I was successfuly able to flash the bios back to the previous format, but unfortunately it didn`t fix the problem, pch fan speed still running at full speed no matter what, this is getting confusing, I wonder if its hardware or software related.

Something similar happened to me. What I think fixed the issue was leaving all fan control settings enabled even if they are of no use. For example, I had cpu fan disabled cause I watercool my cpu and this prevented other fans to respond to their individual settings. Hope this helps.

I will go do than right now and see what happens.

no luck, this is really weird, I cant even see if there is any physical damage or temper to the fan wiring or anything near it.

you should send it to asus, for replacement if it bothers you much, I would if I could but I don`t live in USA and I broke my pcie clip so the warrenty is voided, currently I have disconnected it and my pch temps are 44-45c, am keeping it disconnected until I figure out how to fix it or until I get another motherboard, I don`t think I am able to live with the noise this little thing produce, its so high pitched, I have like 7 fans currently running in my case and its very quite but when I connect it, the noise dramatically increases.

Sent board away for RMA, got replacement. Works fine now. 😄
