Rampage IV Extreme Overclock Failed message on boot with STOCK bios settings

And the fun continues with this motherboard, unfortunately. 😕

I am loaded to STOCK bios fail safe defaults (not optimized one) and everything seems to work fine once I get into windows, however, once I shut down occasionally (and this doesn't always happen) the system will fail to boot/POST properly and say "overclock failed. hit f1 to check settings" (something along the lines of that.)

When this happens I also see the CPU itself seems to be clocking itself down to 1.2ghz, (well, the POST screen shows that anyway.)

Hitting F1, exiting the bios and letting it reboot will then allow my system to boot. Keep in mind this doesn't ALWAYS happen. It's very sporadic/random.

I'm assuming this is a BIOS issue or something (and am hoping for that and a quick fix).

My hardware is: Rampage 4 Extreme Mobo (BIOS 0803), Intel 3930k CPU, 16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3/1600, 120GB OCZ Vertex 3 SSD, 2 * GTX 580 SLI.

Please end my rampage 4 nightmare. 🙂

Update to 0901 and see if the issue persists.

Also, which PSU do you have?

Can't test it right this second, will do first thing in the morning; But it's a Coolermaster Silent Pro Gold 1000W.

Here is a BIOS build for you to try:

I also have this issue. Exactly the same and random. Not just with BIOS defaults but also with 100% stable overclocks. Sometimes the board will post, other times i get the "overclocking failed" error. But once it's in Windows it's perfectly stable under stress testing or gaming, also ran Mem Test and got no errors. The 0901 BIOS dont fix this.

This is with 8 dimms (32GB), a 3930K, 1200w PSU and Crossfire 6970's.

Whats the BIOS you posted Raja? a beta?

Just did 3 cold boots with this one and so far all seems well.
Any point in testing the other posted version or anything in particular I should test with this one?
Thanks for the quick support by the way!

Hi
I also have the same problem with bios 0901, you posted that the beta has changes?

Just an update I've added another 16GB of RAM (couldn't resist seeing as it was just sitting lonely in another system :)) and everything still is working fine with the latest bios Raja posted. (BIOS version 0082)

Have had prime95 running blend test for past few hours and no issues.

I have the bios 0901, I wanted to put that posted by Raja, however, is dated older and I've made.
You had the 0901?
