Rampage IV Extreme: EZPLUG 1

Like a noobster that i can be, i seem to have forgot to plug in the 6pin EZPLUG 1 connection and EZPLUG 2.

EZPLUG 1: I understand that it's designed to supply extra power and gain stability. But i've had no problems, is this a compulsory requirement with 4x GPU's? Or is this only for LN2 users?

EZPLUG 2: Again this is purely for extra power and stability gain, but again it's not explained in detail in what circumstances this should be connected. (I have the relevant connecter)

Thanks for your time....

The EZ Plug connectors provide additional power to the memory modules and PCI Express 3.0 x 16 slots. Connect a 6-pin power cable to EZ_PLUG_1 when installing four PCIe 3.0 x16 display cards to provide sufficient power supply. Connect a 4-pin power cable to EZ_PLUG_2 to provide stable power supply to DIMMs.

That is directly from the motherboard manual page 2-40. Seems pretty simple to understand. I would recommend the plugs be connected as indicated whether or not you meet the requirements; if the power is not deemed necessary it will not be used.

I second this idea, personally I am using only one video card but all 8 dimm slots and I have both the 6 pin and 4 pin plugs connected. I would rather have more power to my components than less.

I'm trying to work out what cable to use to plug into the EZPLUG 1, found the 4Pin EZPLUG 2 cable easy enough (which i don't need apparantly, given i'm using 4xDimms)

Using the AX1200 i'm using 6x PCI-E 6pin cables to 3 of the GPU's

The 4th GPU is using molex to 6Pin PCI-E adapters, which is the norm for 4Way SLI on this PSU. A pain i know.....and fugly.

The only other cables that are free to use are daisy chained molex connections, but the 6pin connection that powers them denotes "AX1200 Only" on it. Is this saying this particular end can only be connected to the PSU directly?

I was looking at the specs of your power supply, I would want to connect the EZ Plug 1 directly into one of the 6 x 6+2-Pin PCI-Express Connectors. As for the EZ Plug 2, now this is just my personal opinion, I would make use of the EZ Plug 2 when I'm using any more than 4 dimms. 🙂

If I were you I'd plug in the PCIe one 4 680s might need it. The other one I wouldn't think it's needed with 32 GB on 4 slots. If you fill all 8 slots with high MHz ram and or 64GB then maybe.:)
