Rampage IV Extreme - Boot Problem

Hello all,

I have a problem during boot-up with my Rampage Iv Extreme. The boot-up sequence freezes and stops. The LED counter on the board reads 67 (CPU DXE initialization is started). It stops there and doesn't continue. I have to turn everything off then on again. Sometimes I have to repeat this 3-4 times before it finally boots up. Any assistance would be appreciated.

The problem is your RAM. Vengeance and x79 are a pairing from hell unfortunately. Speaking of which, how long have you had the RAM?

Do you know the exact problem?

I've had the system running fine for 18 months now, no problems until now. Any recommendations on what to switch to?

All i know is what i've seen here in the Forums, that Vengeance RAM and all X79 boards don't play well together. If you can get it to boot, download and run Memtest 86+ and see if your RAM kicks up any errors, this will help us to narrow down that it's either a RAM problem or not.

Running Memtest86 right now and it only detects 12gb of RAM when I have 16gb. Looks like I'm going to be pulling chips and testing them one at a time.

Hello mate

Could you tell me if you have recently done a bios update or anything like that?

Haven't done any BIOS updates at all, still the same as from the box. I admit I'm lazy when it comes to BIOS updates.

For what it's worth I ran 3 different kits of mismatched Vengeance RAM & it ran perfectly fine for 2 years.
The only thing I couldn't do was use XMP to automate my settings.
Everything had to be set manually.

OP's experience may vary, but if it's been running fine for 18 months I have doubts the RAM is at fault.

Please do see if you have a bad stick or ram mate, I agree I do not think the type of ram would be the cause this long after starting to use those sticks. But a stick failing on you might.
