Rampage III Extreme and Core i7-930... overclock?

Hi...

Well, got a friend now that got a deal on a Rampage III Extreme and he's replacing his P6T Deluxe V2 with the R3E.

Since he doesn't know anything about overclock and so, i was kind enough to overclock his 930 on his P6T Deluxe V2. Now, he want's me to do the upgrade for him, which is something i like to do anyway... so i will do so as soon as he bring me his system.

The specs are like this:

Rampage III Extreme (I am thinking of putting a custom bios in it, like ZioMod_1601_S06_SLIC modded bios)
Intel Core i7-930 @ 2.8Ghz with Corsair H80 Push/Pull dual 120mm fan
Corsair 12GB (6x2gb) (TR3X6G1600C8) 8-8-8-24 at 1.65v (This is 2 kits of 6gb...)
PC Power & Cooling 750w PSU
EVGA Geforce GTX280
4x Vertex 2 60gb SSD in Raid-0 + 1TB HDD for storage
Windows 8 Pro x64

Now this system is currently running very stable at 3.6Ghz on the P6T Deluxe V2 with those settings:

CPU Ratio Setting: 19
BLCK Frequency: 190
PCIE Frequency: 100
DRAM Frequency: DDR3-1523
Intel SpeedStep Tech: Enabled
Intel C-STATE Tech: Disabled
CPU Voltage: 1.275
CPU PLL: 1.88
QPI/DRAM Core: 1.35
IOH Voltage: 1.20
ICH Voltage: 1.20
DRAM Bus Voltage 1.66

Mostly everything else is on Auto... it's very very stable like that, for at least a year now, maybe more, i don't remember...

Now, i know the 930 is not an unlocked CPU, and this is why i had to come up with those settings on the P6T. Since overclock is mostly all related to CPU, this is the highest with his cooler i could achieve at the time i overclocked it (he was using air cooler, the CM Hyper 212 Plus... do you think i could reach higher with the H80 and the R3E? If so... since i haven't seen the R3E bios yet, are the settings mostly the same to overclock?

P.S.: This would be for a day to day overclock... i don't want him to fry his 930 either... i could stay on the 3.6ghz OC i did on his P6T, but he seriously thinks this R3E will help him achieve higher overclock... which i doubt (mostly OC is related to CPU, not motherboard... )

20 x 200 will get you to 4 GHz with that cooler and same voltages, or maybe just a touch more on the vCore.
Ram can be set to 1600MHz via the XMP profile on those settings.

Win win.

Just make sure he has a regular clean of his radiator.

I wasn`t able in the past (over a year now) to overclock the ram... not even a tad... that`s why i had to clock it down at 1523 because at 190 it`s running at like 760mhz... as soon as i get over 800mhz, it`s starting to blue screen... this is why i had to ease the clock on the ram... i could have played with the ram timings instead... but i prefered to let it work at 8-8-8-24. The 40mhz downclock on the ram was easily caught up with the CPU at 3.6ghz instead of 2.8ghz...

I will see if i can get it stable at 20x200 with some more vcore like 1.28 or 1.29...

The reason for that was due to the unicore I suspect. Running XMP profile should sort that out for you.

UNCORE (CPUZ NB frequency) needs to optimally be twice that of MEM frequency

if you run the xmp profile on that setup and then raise the bus speed you will fail. You will have to set ram manualy like is seems you are already doing, but you may be able to set the strap to a lower ratio.
