RAM or Motherboard issue ?

I am trying to figure out if i have a RAM or Motherboard issue.
Last week i started getting a Application Error from BF3.exe when playing. I ran Prime95 and when test5 started I dropped a worker. I then ran Memtest and right before the 20% mark of the 1st pass I start getting a ton of memory errors. I reset BIOS to all default settings and manually changed memory timing to proper timings, speed and voltage. I ran memtest again and at the same spot in the test i get same errors. I removed memory from slots 2 and 4
leaving memory in slots 1 and 3 and ran memtest with 2 passes and no errors. I removed both memory sticks out of slots 1 and 3 and put other 2 stick into slots 2 and 4 and ran memtest again 2 passes with no errors. But when i put all 4 sticks back in to system and run memtest every time at the same spot I get errors.
I did not have this problem a month ago.

My specs
Motherboard: Asus Crosshair V Formila (@ default settings, no overclocking. BIOS v1402 MOD with updated RAID controller)
Memory: x4 4Gb Patriot Xtreme Divtion II ( RAM set to 2133Mhz 11-11-11-30- 2T @ 1.65v )

Any ideas ?

I just looked on home page and found "Memtest User Guide For ROG Motherboards" and read " If you do get errors with two modules and you have tested each module and each slot, there could be an compatibility issue or damage to the CPU."

http://rog.asus.com/127362012/overclocking/memtest-user-guide-for-rog-motherboards/

I do not get errors with 2 modules, I only get errors with all 4.

I hope this is not the answere 😞

I must say that is what I first thought when you mentioned the second kit not playing nice together. And since I wrote the article I have a bit of insight about what was meant by that statement. When Memtest86+ was developed there were not as many matched kits as there are today. So often folks would just buy two sticks of ram, loose sticks. Now today that transfers to our use of mated pairs or kits. You are correct in thinking that there might just be a conflict between your two sets of ram slots. But I am not sure that is the whole story.

First up, I assume that your ram is made up of one kit. And as such it would matter little if you mixed or matched the ram the key issue is when they play together there is a problem.

Remember the CPU's we are using have the memory controller built in. So it is more likely that it will be a combination of a couple of things. First the fact that four sticks of ram are being used at the same time. This adds heaps more stress onto the IMC of the processor. Second will be the addition of more capacity, not as stressful as more sticks but still adding to the loud. And then there might just be a weak slot in one or other of the memory slots.

You did do individual slot testing with a working stick of ram I seem to recall. So what I think is needed is that you start fine tuning your ram settings and voltages to ensure all 4 sticks work together.

Once again, thank you HiVizMan for your info. Here are some updates.
I found I am able to run all 4 memory sticks at slower speeds with no memotest errors. 1866 is working great. I have tried relaxing all the timing settings a bit and bumping volts up to 1.66 and still on test 5 in memotest the errors start.
I am a Nissan tech and have to work tomorrow but I am going to spend a good part of Sunday figuring this out.

updated to BIOS 1503.
I have tried everything I know but my memory will no longer run at 2133 with all 4 sticks.
I can overclock BUS to 220 and run 2055Mhz great BUT,
i found setting memory to 1866 alows me to lower timings to 8-8-8-27 and get slightly better bench test scores then what i had at 2133 with 11-11-11-30 timings

Case Closed...

Thank you
