RAID 0 or 10 array with latest IRST drivers & Windows 7

Is anyone successfully running either a RAID 0 or 10 array with the latest IRST drivers v14.8.0.1042 and Windows 7 64-bit?

The latest IRST drivers from Asus' web site for the RIV Extreme are v12.8.0.1016.

Thanks for any input.
Bill

Hi Howie,

Thanks for the response.

I have another question for you...

I was running a RAID0 array two years ago on this mobo using the Intel 6G connectors with the Asus 6G SATA cables and identical WD Black drives.

It would work fine until I also plugged my other two WD drives into the Intel 3G connectors. These two drives were NOT a RAID array, but rather single drives used for backups (Backup 1 and Backup 2).

Anywhere from a few days to a week or two later, the RAID0 array would start showing one of the drives as going bad in the IRST status (taskbar notification area). The single backup drives never had any issues at all, only the RAID array.

I repeated this experiment several times and it ALWAYS happened as soon as I plugged any non-RAID drive(s) into the other internal Intel connectors.

Looking at your .sig it seems as though you are using a single drive on one of those Internal Intel connectors and you also have a RAID array on the internal connectors. If so, are you seeing any issues? How long have you been using that exact configuration?

I plan on creating a RAID0 array (Boot) on the 6G connectors using two identical WD Raptor drives and then a second RAID1 array (Backup) using two identical WD Black drives on the 3G connectors. My single WD Black Data drive will then be connected to the ASMEDIA internal connector along with my CD drive.

For many years I successfully ran two RAID0 arrays (Boot & Data) on a Rampage II mobo with zero issues. The nightmare only began after switching to the Rampage IV.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Bill

Hi again, and gosh sorry for the delay replying. I never got an alert RE another reply here, and I haven't really been checking back. By now I imagine you probably have resolved your issue, but I shall reply anyway: I have not experienced any of the issues you describe, and I actually now have two single HDDs on the Intel 3G connectors while my two SSDs are in RAID0 on the Intel 6G connections. I had the single HDD connected from day 1, which has been about 3 years, and the second single HDD for at least a year.

As simple as it might be, sometimes problems are related to a defect in a SATA cable. I had that happen many years ago adding extra drive to a much simpler computer setup that didn't involve iRST or RAID. A brad new SATA cable ended up being the cause of a lot of otherwise hard-to-diagnose issues and errors, and changing the cable simply fixed the problem. I can attest that there should be nothing inherently wrong with your setup, but obviously you might have issues that go beyond a bad cable. Maybe there is a problem on the Intel controller that didn't become apparent until you started trying to use the 3G connections.

Anyway, I hope you got to the bottom of your problem, and I will try to set alerts for this thread so I will know if you reply back.

Cheers.
