New R4E install, BIOS v4403, Ivy Bridge-E 4930k
I have a problem with the Q-Fan control center. The "minimal" CPU fan duty cycle requires 20% or higher. This is a ridiculous minimal first off, because it is a PWM fan. Even 0% duty cycle will allow the fan to spin at what it has as a minimal.
I must be able to change to this 0%. Or, at least 8% as that is what my cooling system is tuned for over the last 5 years.
Anything above 10% activates the TECs and auto-increases the server fan to beyond audible tolerance (about 2000 rpms on a Server High-Speed fan meant to idle at 900rpms - it's LOUD).
No, I cannot change the cooling system. No I cannot change the TECs. No I cannot change the fan as the server-grade high-static fan is required for the compact TEC waterchiller and heat exchanger (it does double-duty for both). No I cannot change the master control board that has been hardcoded in the firmware this way. Yes, it works perfectly with ASRock and EVGA motherboards that allow me to set 0% duty cycles. Only this R4E forces me to a 20% duty cycle.
I must run v4403 BIOS, as that is the only one that supports Ivy Bridge-E that I see.
