R4E Black - UNBELIEVABLE! DISAPPOINTED! *Please Read*

Ok.. I must first say that this isn't my board... This board belongs to a friend of mine... It's brand new.. and I'm building the system for them.

Specs First:
RIVE Black (came with 0502 bios)
3930K CPU
EVGA GTX 780TI Classified (SLI)
32GB Corsair Vengeance 2400 (8GB x 4)
Samsung 840 Evo 250GB
WD 3TB Black HD
Corsair RM1000 PSU (1000W)
Cooler Master Seidon 240M Cooler
HP BD335 Blu-Ray Drive
HAF X Case
Tuniq TX-4 Thermal Compound

Built system. Posted on first boot. Message said new CPU detected Press F1. Went into BIOS and made sure it was detecting all RAM, drives, fans, temps, etc. Everything seemed to be working. At this point, the system had been on for about 5 minutes. Out of nowhere I hear something FALL onto the top of the top video card!!!!! and the system began to reboot (I was still in bios)
I immediately grabbed the power cable from the back of the power supply... upon inspecting what it was that fell, I found 2 chokes that appeard to become "de-soldered" from above the CPU socket (where heatsink is on VRM's)

I noticed these chokes (and you can tell by the picture) aren't covered by the heatsink.. is this normal?

I will NOT attempt to power the board back on... Obviously an RMA will be underway... But it saddens me that this is what quality has come to... 😞 On such an enthusiast/expensive board!

Enough ramble... here's the pics:

Woah...not good...saddened to see that!!!:(

The cut out in the heatsink is normal yes...for whatever reason...

Hope they replace with a brand new board!

I have one of these boards brand new too and am getting all sorts of sudden shut-downs with 3 different processors two different RAM kits 2 different PSUs and 2 different GPUs I can hardly believe it but I think I might be in the RMA club soon too...I will open my own thread of course :o...just saying...

Sad for top of the line...

I was in the random reboot club until I bought a new board.
Hate to say it but if you're experiencing that problem I bet you will need an RMA.

You didn't happen to power it up on top of the conductive MB box did you? 🙂

Just saying...

Your advice has nothing to do with these problems, and frankly, is disinformation.
Multiple members have measured their boxes with DMM to prove you wrong already.

Would that include members who tried to measure the voltage of the box, found it to be 0V, and the determined I was the one who didn't know what they're talking about? I'll gladly pit my 10 years industry experience against someone who doesn't know how to use a multi-meter.

And my advice, "Don't power up a motherboard on a conductive surface" is something that most people who actually know what they're talking about, wouldn't need to be told. It'd be obvious to them.

I suppose it's much easier to shoot the messenger than it is to admit you're wrong.
