R4BE Will only post with Op default settings - QCode 79

Last week my 4930K posted a Q Code 00 (mild OC was pushing my Matrix cards) I did the normal testing and checks with no luck. I could not resuscitate. So I received my 3930K and setup the board. The board posted with the OP defaults settings. If I apply any OC on the cores the board will not post and I get Q code 79. I can boot to window on OP defaults and then OC to 47 mhz with out a problem. So my question is is it the mobo or a bad cpu. thanks for your input.

G'DAY meankeys,

As CSM Failure is part of the Boot process, I would suggest you first re-flash your bios with the latest version. At least its worth a try.

Should that not work then inspect your CPU.

btw, check that CSM is enabled in bios.

Any luck meankeys? was the 4930 toast? Have you tried leaving the board unpowered a day and starting again?

Hi Arne
Were have you been hiding? I tried just about everything. CSM is enabled by default. I wish I had another LGA 2011 mobo to test these two cpu on. I think it may be the board because I find it odd my 4930K just quit like that.

I was in the wilds on holiday...still am really but have internet on hand now...

Yeah, was thinking the same...if two CPUs are being funny...

Is that board back from RMA once already?

Cool I hope your having a great time. This was a new board. never RMA'd

Actually, I just had to RMA my 4930k because it stopped being able to use XMP... and this was after I thought it was R4BE, which I RMA'd before I figured it was the CPU. 😐

Hi Gawlron
So you RMA your mobo and they said it was good? or your just tried the cpu once you received it and still had the same problem. Then RMA the cpu and the new cpu worked?
thanks
