Problem with first boot, Maximus IV Gene-z, new computer.

So i got my brand new Asus Maximus IV Gene-Z home a few days ago, i assembled my rig and booyaa, f2 error code.

My rig:
Maximus IV Gene-z/gen 3
G-skill F3-1600CL9T 2000mhz 3x2gb (Should work with the mobo)
MSI 6950
i5 3570k
Simple HDD and a SSD 6gb/s.

So i've tried with just 2 ram sticks or only one etc, nothing new. Tried clearing CMOS with the I/0 button. Tried with the Go buttom blinking etc, nothing.

The error code is F2 and the DIMM led is powered on.

I suspect it's the BIOS on the mobo who can't work with the Ivy Bridge CPU, but if this is the problem, how do i update it without being able to start the computer, not even a flickering on the screen. But it might aswell be some other problem, would be more then happy with some pros help here!

Thanks! //Crim

you can update bio's by a usb flash drive stick f2 error is mainly due to bios or pc memory try update to latest bios,
Also i have read something about cpu giving this f2 error code but without knowing your full system specs it'll be harder for users to pin point the problem. i would think its bios try updating it but be warned latest bios is a nightmare from what i have read.
motherboard ASUS Crosshair V Formula
PSU Fractal Design Newton R2 1000W
MemoryRipjaws 16 GB

CPUAMD Bulldozer FX-8120 8 Core 3.10GHz

Clocked to 4.5GHz

Can't say it sounds assuring.

My rig is completly this:

Asus Maximus IV Gene-z/Gen3 (Bought second-hand, but never started as far as i know, brand new)
MSI TwinF 6950 2GB (Second hand)
3x2gb G-Skill 1600CL9T-6GBTD (Second hand)
Seagate 320gb 2.5" and Verbatim 120gb 6gb/s SSD (Brand new)
H60 Cooler (Brand new)
850W XFX BE Silver (Second hand)
Intel i5 3570k. (Brand New)

I've never updated bios ever before, never had to. And is it still possible even though i can't get a picture on the screen etc? It's enough with a flash memory and power?

Hello Crim welcome to the forum.

Please have a look at the white sicker that will be found near the SATA ports and the 24pin power connector. Look at the last 4 digits, that will be the shipping BIOS.

To run an Ivy-bridge CPU you will need a 3 series BIOS. Ideally you should follow the BIOS flashing guide I have linked to in my sig.

Will check back a little later to see what the shipping BIOS is on your board.
To help us help you - please provide as much information about your system and the problem as possible.

Checked it and its not a 3 series, it's 0402, so i'm guessing its time to flash.

Wish me the best of luck becasue this will be risky !

There is a guide on how to do a blind flash in one of the sticky threads on this forum.

The key thing to do is to not stop the process once you have started.

Here is the port you need to use.

First off, great help and support here, love it.

Second off, from reading from this forum, people have said that my board can't even blind flash because missing some rog ports.

Got you a picture on the ports, found the rog switch but not a led though, might be me missing it but nothing in the manual either about a led for the rog switch.

God i feel stupid atm.
