Prime95 OC Stability Test

Hi guys, id like to know how many ppl use to test their OC running Prime95 27.7 and for how long time, i'm asking this because i'm trying to find the perfect and nice spot on my RIG and i'm having lot of issues with Prime95, at the same time testing with IBT for 50/100 pass @high it is fine so i was thinking... is it necessary testing for hours with Prime?

Thanks

No its not necessary....... not in any way..

Please browse the forum, and you will see many threads, where this dilemma/Torment95 behavior is discussed..

Yes, they are prob wasted..

Torment95, in a small dose maybe?

/ Bed time in Sweden now..

Take care, and enjoy your machine, instead of searching for errors, or trying to force a bsod..

The only thing it prove is if it passed the stress test, nothing else..

A OC profile stability varies, every time you start your machine.. The higher OC, the more noticeable it get..

So if you pass the test one day at lets say 4,9-5.0 ghz, you may not the other day.. Its simple..

Its not healthy for your chip, and to check stability only takes a couple of min (max)..

Why get a fancy spacesuit, if your not scheduled for a trip to the moon?

Sorry, i didnt mean to sound harsh...

well, prime is something else theres no doubt it, it has been known to crash systems where no other stress test could. 20 mins is usually fine, there basically exists no other scenarios of normal pc operation where the cpu would be taken to such levels of output and heat generation. we're talking about a constant 100% loadage on all cores here. IBT and Linx on high or very high for many oc'ers is more than enough of an indication of stability. 45 mins of prime was enough for me at 5ghz. thank god i only had to do it once at that clock.

If your system is mainly for games, then prolonged use of prime95 won't provide for you any extra peace of mind because prime will take ur cpu up to twice or many times the level needed for games. with that said, its not uncommon to hear about guys running games at 5ghz with ridiculously unstable configurations but it doesn't crash because the system is at best only at 50% utilization. I noticed also that other stress tests ease into the loadage whereas prime will take the cores from zero to brainfart straight away. i don't like the sounds of that hence why i try to use it as little as possible and mostly just to defeat the "what if its not stable" thoughts in my head.

Personally, 3 hours of bf3 was enough for me to declare 75% stability. and in the remaining usage scenarios the prime run just confirmed the system could handle whatever was thrown at it... IF i ever came across an app that could utilize my system like prime does..

don't stress yourself and the cpu too much my friend. 20 passes with linx using 10,000mb is fine.

Useless. Benchmarking of any kind in my humble opinion has little to do with actual real world stability,
even from game to game or app to app.
Test the system, test your limits or your systems limits or the pure fun of competition .. then Yes, many
set the bar .. but, imh singular opinion, useless.

There are many much more reliable, simple, less straining on your system ways to test Your systems
stability and reliability for your uses or environments.
Quick, down and dirty .. load a game .. an app or two .. a few browsers .. and put 'it' to sleep.
When you wake .. can you freely resume any and all ?? ... now thats stable.c.

^ agreed. there's stability and then there's stability.

I always hear people going on about 12hour Prime testing and all that, but TBH i never bother. If it runs BF3 maxed out without crashing then thats good eneough for me 🙂 i have used it before, when i first started OC'ing, but only because people were saying its necessary, but i soon came to my own conclusion that...i just cant be bothered to do hours of Prime each time i change my OC. Seems a waste of time to me, so 15 mins maybe but generally i dont bother
