PLZ HELP! Mouse and keyboard stop functioning at random times

Hello everyone, I joined these forums to get some advice as to what is causing my mouse and keyboard to stop working on my brand new Rampage 4 extreme board. Its not like it freezes because whatever game or video i have running will continue to run and the lights on the keyboard and mouse are still on. Unplugging and plugging them back in to the 2.0 ports does fix it either so i press the power button on my tower and it shuts down safely. It usually happens after an hour or so if it does happen, since i had it run for a total of 16 hours starting from yesterday night at 10pm till today when it happened at around 2pm
The keyboard and mouse are from a Dell i used b4 which would also randomly have the mouse give out but usually it would fix itself (the driver disconnect sound would play and then the connect sound would play right after) or unplugging and plugging back in would work for a while until it happened again.
I really hope its just a bios setup or update issue since I don't want to exchange it for another one. The only other thing i noticed is that when I click the "view and print detailed performance and system information" link; for manufacturer is says "system manufacturer" and for model it says "System Product Name" even though it shows what processor i have, did i forget to install something?
I have only 8 more days till i can exchange it for another one but i really don't want to go thru the hassle of it all and then have the same issue with the other new board. Please any advice is greatly appreciated and I will respond promptly.

So you have issues on your last machine with the SAME keyboard/mouse and now because the issues are occuring on brand new hardware it seems logical to you it's the BRAND NEW motherboard that's bad?

Go buy a new keyboard and mouse (or at least borrow a set) so you at least have a known working set before wasting your vendor's time.

Instead of offending the OP, I'm more incline to ask have you tried an alternative keyboard and mouse with the system, and can you please tell us where your human interfaces are attached? Are they connected directly to the back of the motherboard or via a USB hub (ie: display)

...I've only ever encounter this issue when my keyboard and mouse are connected via the display's built-in USB hub, I've concluded they're cutting off from time to time due to inefficient power requirements.

I don't have another keyboard and mouse to test and they are plugged in the back of the mobo in the 2.0 ports. I'm going to best buy today and picking up a new keyboard and mouse to rule it out but what I don't understand is why unplugging and plugging usb cables back in doesn't alleviate the problem like it did on my crappy POS dell mobo. I was thinking it had to do with the power going to them so i also disabled the option for the computer to turn off the device to save power but it happened anyway.

If you wish, you can try updating the motherboard bios to version 1101 which add better system stability and give that a try!!!

There are a couple of things you could try.

The first is to ensure that you have the latest Intel drivers for your chipset.
Updating your BIOS is a good option and can be done with out risk due to the BIOS flashback feature.
Lastly change your keyboard and mouse and see if that solves your issue.

So I went to Best Buy and picked up hp wireless keyboard and mouse yesterday. I plugged in the micro receiver in the back of the mobo usb port and it worked just fine, or so i thought. The next day I put in a second gpu for curiosity, an xfx hd6770 and after 9 hours the mouse and keyboard went out but after a few seconds the display went out as well (never happened on the primary gpu before) I went to the intel site but there weren't any drivers for the x79 chipset, just an overclocking utility. So I guess my only the hope is updating the BIOS or I might just have to exchange my motherboard 😞 Are there any other variables that I could have overlooked:confused:

If possible please do a full install of OS again. I think that your registry is a bit corrupted.

Try plugging in the micro receiver to another USB port see if that works if not . You could uninstall the USB ROOT HUB inside device manager. Windows will reinstall them after restart .
