I've encountered this problem too, on a new rig that I've put together for my mother.
The motherboard is a 'Asus Z170-P' (with latest BIOS v3017), and when booting it says "2 Keyboards".
There are only two USB devices connected to this computer..
* A 'Logitech K310' keyboard (no fancy LEDs or anything)
* A 'Logitech G303' mouse
Don't know if the issues that I'll be describing here has to do with the "2 Keyboards" thingy, but I've encountered some serious issues, which just might be related to hardware detection.
This new rig that I've built ran just fine the first day, until I installed an extra DVD drive (a 'LiteOn iHAS124-14').
..then the problems begun.
For the most part, the computer refused to start (no reaction when pressing the power button).
It seemed to have a mind of its own, and would only start up when it felt like it.
Naturally, I disconnected the newly installed DVD drive, but to no use.
So, I cleared the CMOS and it seemed to be OK again.
But the next day, the problems were back..
Not only would it refuse to start, but when it did, it would boot to the UEFI, and sometimes the monitor wouldn't even turn on!
I searched up and applied some recommended UEFI settings (which apparenly have fixed similar problems for other Asus motherboard owners):
* Fast Boot: Disabled
* Launch CSM: Auto
..and I've set the primary hard drive (an Intel SSD 540s 480GB) as the first boot device.
Seems OK again for now, but I don't trust it, and I really don't like the idea of using such an unstable motherboard.
After contacting the shop where I bought it, I got a refund, and I've ordered a 'MSI Z170A PC MATE' instead.
The 'Asus Z170-P' is the second Asus motherboard I've bought (the previous one was a 'Asus Rampage IV Black Edition'), and both boards have suffered from major issues!
With the 'Asus Rampage IV Black Edition' I were unable to use more than two RAM modules (2x4GB)..
When installing four modules (4x4GB), Win8.1Pro,x64 would just crash all the time!
Of course, I tested the modules, and they were all OK.
Also, these were 'Corsair CMD16GX3M4A2800C12' modules, which are specifially listed by Asus to be compatible with the motherboard.
I though that the issue might get fixed in a BIOS update, but no..
The last BIOS for this board was a beta version, released back in July, 2014.
They didn't even bother to provide one last stable release.
Don't reckon I'll ever be buying a third Asus motherboard.
😞And BTW; This forum is messed up too!:
