PCieX1 slot won't detect sound card.

Hi,
I hope someone can help i've looked all over and found similar problems and no answers.

i've tried contacting ASUS the website won't let me submit a technical problem just has a pop up saying can't be left blank when i try and submit the form and no boxes are blank.
so i tried to call ASUS who flat refused to speak to me about mother boards as all issues have to be reported online.
I resorted to ripping into them on their facebook page, hoping to get a rise out of them and someone did repsond to my post giving me an email address to approach of a motherboard specialist.
up to now i have had no reposnse from my email to their specialist either.
all in all absolutely f**king useless customer service and i wish i never baught ASUS now.
but anyway i digress, my problem is...

I have a crosshair V formula Z i'm running crossfired sapphire HD7950's in pcie slots one and three and want to run my sound blaster ZX in the pciex1 slot in the middle of my GPU's

when i start the pc it doesn't even recognise that a card is plugged in ( i have proved the card to be wokring on another mobo).

i've trawled the Bios and forums all over the place and can't find an explanation, clearly ASUS them selves don't give a flying f**k if you can't get their s**t to work so i'm hopeing someone here can resolve my issue for me.

full setup is:
coolermaster HAF-X case
Vformula Z
fx-8320 with a H60 with 2x120mm's push and pull
2x sapphire radeon HD7950's - stock fans
16bg corsair vengeance racing red running at 1866 4x4 - with vengeance airflow cooler
corsair RM1000 psu
running an Aerocool fan controller for the case fans and vga duct fan - but the cooling is irrelevant....

can anyone tell me how to get my Sound Blaster ZX to run in that middle pciex1 slot between the 2nd and 3rd PCIE slots as this is the only place it will fit with my 2 GPU's

i've read that other poeple can't get wireless cards or sound cards to work once they crossifre GPU's but surely if it can run 3xgpu's it must be able to run 2xgpu's and a sound blaster.
surely..

someone please help, i ran a msi 970a g46 before, it cost about 40GBP and ran everything i stuck in it perfectly well so can't believe that this mother board at 5x's the cost can't do what it was capable of.

all help much appreciated and thanks in advance

n.b : i have the 8pin the 4 pin and the molex connectors on the board for maximum power input

So if I understood correctly you have the GPUs as they should be in PCIe slot 1 and 5 (first and third x16 slot)?

Have you tried running the soundcard in the third (x16) slot instead of the fourth (x1)?

i have a very similar setup as OP, i have no issues and my two GPUs are in 1st and 3rd x16 slots with soundblaster z in between in the x1 slot. if it doesn't work, there maybe another issue here.......like hardware issue......

i have taken 2nd gpu out this morning.
pciex1 slot still doesn't fire up.? but the sound blaster works in the 2nd, 3rd or 4th pcie16 slots.
when i put my 2nd gpu back in i can put the soundcard in pcie16 slot 2 as its the only one it will fit in and it does work but now sits about 3mm away from the fans on my first gpu.

now i've proved the card works and all the 16 slots work how can i get the pciex1 slot to work so i can put the sound blaster in the slot its supposed to be in and get it away from the air flow from my 1st gpu.

thanks for your help so far, at least i've got it working now even if it is in the most rediculous place it could possibly be in the case lol..

n.b : when i put the sound blaster in the pciex1 slot it powers up as the red led's on the card come on but windows doesn't even detect it (this has allways been the case so there is power to the card slot the computer just won't believe something is plugged in)

I don't know how old or how messed up your windows installation could possibly be, I won't assume anything. Have you fired it up and tried scanning for hardware changes within the device manager? this is a LONG shot since you say it works in another slot....just thinking out loud, sorry if you're past this already.....

Did you change your pcie settings in bios, when you did put it back to 100, try that once, i once had that problem.

I had a problem whenever I chose the "use extreme OC'ing settings" option in the BIOS that the motherboard would no longer let me use the 2nd PCI-E x1 slot at all---the Intel NIC I had there would never show up in the BIOS as a boot option, nor in windows.

Resetting the BIOS and not choosing that option fixed it for me.

I had this exact same problem, also with a Creative SoundBlaster. I never did get it working in the pciex1 slot, but as you, it worked in all the pciex16
slots.
I asked on here for help, but no joy, so in the end I bought the Xonar Phoebus, and that does work in the pcie x 1 slot. I've since discovered it may be
a driver issue, as in my case I couldn't instal the drivers as kept getting an error saying no compatible device found!
It may be worth installing in 16x slot, installing latest drivers, then moving to x1 slot. Can't promise, but maybe worth a try.
Good luck with it, I feel your pain!!
