PCIe Slot 2B Not Working

Windows 7 Ultimate
ASUS Maximus Extreme Mobo
Intel i5 3570
Corsair 16 Gig RAM 1600 mhz
Corsair AX1200 Power Supply
ASUS nVidia GTX 680 2gb x 2 (SLI) Physical Slots 1 and 4

Anyway as mentioned my slot 2B is not recognized. I have cleared CMOS and updated to Bios 1604. At a real loss here. I really need that slot to work.

Any suggestions?

I have also tried having just the video cards in 1 and 2B. First card Recognized second card was not.

sounds like a faulty slot if SLI cards in 1 & 2B don't get recognized.

That's what I'm afraid of. I bought this system a month ago and have just now started using my capture card, so Now I will have to just get an RMA i guess.

just to make sure. you have tested it with only 680 cards present and installed in slots 1 (topmost) and 2B, correct? if that doesn't work and secondary card doesn't get recognized then I think it's time for RMA. slots 1& 2B are the native SLI (PCIe 3.0 8x/8x) and that should work.

if there is no instance when slot 2B becomes alive then the board must be at fault. keep in mind that having ANYTHING installed in any other slot at same time will disable the 2B slot.

So is there anyway to install a third PCIe device? Say plugging the capture card into the 5th slot.

yes, as I wrote before quoting manual. only when you avoid using slot 2B.

Well in my case, the ASUS GTX680 cover up the other slots. Could I possibly use slot 2B and3 for graphics card and Slot 1 for Intensity Pro. With the Board I have and the Cards I have something will always have to be in 2B to get 3 open slots.

OH well I guess you must always sacrifice something.

no, you can't use 2B with 3 cards, no workaround for that. you can use ANY slot EXCEPT 2B for 3 cards though 😉

Having 680 SLI in slots 1 & 4 does just that, it disables 2B.

Alright. Video Cards in 1 and 2b. All working perfectly. Guess I will have to capture via thunderbolt.
