PC will not POST; debug LED shows 04

Hi,

My setup:

  • Asus Maximus IV GENE-Z motherboard
  • Intel Core i5 2500K processor
  • CoolIt ECO A.L.C processor cooler
  • G.Skill Ripjaws F3-1066CL7D-4GBXH memory (2x2x2GB)
  • Corsair AX740 power supply
  • Sapphire HD6950 2GB GDDR5 PCI-E graphics card (reference design)

When I hook everything up, system powers up, but nothing appears on my display. Instead, the debug LED displays 04, and then, after staying on for about 5 seconds, the system powers off.

Error code 04 means "PCH initialization before microcode loading".

I have no idea what that means.

I have tried stipping my system down to

  • Motherboard,
  • Processor,
  • Processor cooler, and
  • Power supply, with 24-pin and 8-pin EATX connectors connected.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,
Willard.

Nnnevermind, seems I connected my A.L.C pump to the wrong socket on my motherboard, so it wasn't getting enough power. Now the debug LEDs complain about missing memory (which is true; I removed the memory). So, unless I write something else here within the next 24 hours, consider this matter solved.
