Overclocking Rampage 3 Extreme + i7 930 D0 First time

Hi Guys

This is my first OC on this board since I bought it and that was 2 years ago. After watching a few videos on youtube I managed to hit 4.2Ghz Stable, tested using PRIME95 for a few hours.

The CPU Temperature at 100% load was around 74% and iddle 35%-40%, the hybrid cooler is a Corsair H80, below are my settings.

CPU Frequency 4200MHz
DRAM Frequency 1603MHZ
74c 100% load
40 idle 0% load

  • Asus ENGTX570 DCII/2DIS/1280MD5
  • Samsung SSD 830 256gb
  • Corsair HX850w
  • Cooler Master HAF 932
  • Windows 7 Ultimate
My goal now is to try and achieve a higher clock whilst trying to keep the voltages really low, I am a bit concerned about that North Bridge voltages though, I changed the fan on the NB yesterday with a 40mm 3k RPM minikaze. Here are the temperatures for that;

IOH Temp: 60*
ICH Temp 44*

I don't know which are the safe temperatures for these two?

Here is my Validator http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=2705913

Anyway to finish off, can anyone please recommend any other settings to get a higher clock, Thanks

Nope that is about where nearly all 920 and 930's have their sweet spot. There after way to much voltage is going to be needed.
To help us help you - please provide as much information about your system and the problem as possible.

LatinUnit I've OCd a 920 and 960, and helped uncountable ppl W/their OCs on the EVGA X58 (now "5 series") forum. Here is my 920 D0 OC record:

EVGA Intel 5 series forum: X58 Stability Club 4.2Ghz+ Can you make it?

Here's my post in that thread:
EVGA Intel 5 series forum: Re:X58 Stability Club - Post #576

This club is open to other mobos, but Kram has not updated the list for a year now (so don't bother posting there). This is just to show you what I have done.

Here is my OC records:

EVGA Intel 5 series forum: Plz help me OC >4.3GHz, unstuck, [DONE]

Over 6GB of RAM will limit your OC W/X58 CPUs. You missed giving us memory specs. I'm guessing you aren't going to get much more out of that, I helped numerous ppl W/930s and typically they didn't quite reach as high of GHz with them as the 920 D0. You have the H80 though, and back then nobody had an AIO sealed-unit WC cooler so that might change things a bit.

"COU PPL Voltage 1.35" <-- What is this? CPU PLL? If so, you will need about 1.9V on that to get higher, 1.8V minimum. Yeah, I know, lowering CPU PLL works great up until about 4.1GHz, then it needs to be default or higher.
You only have one vid card? What is the default IOH doing? Keep it 1.15V or so.
Raise ICH to 1.15V minimum, if "auto" isn't already doing that.
What's your CPU VTT?
Watch your northbridge temps when doing graphics benchmarks. That's when they are the highest. Problems W/NB temps are rare.
Any Q's? I'll check later.

Overclocking is useless to me if it is not rock stable.

Hiya

The memory is the following CMP6GX3M3A1600C

Below are my temps. how do I manually set the RAM timings on these and the voltages? they seem to be automatically set at 9 9 9 24. Also what are the normal nb and sb temperatures @ 4Ghz -+

Extreme Tweaker menu:
Ai Overclock tuner: Manual
DRAM Bus Voltage: 1.65V

DRAM timing control submenu:
CAS Latency (tCL): 8
RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 8
RAS Pre time (tRP): 8
RAS ACT time (tRAS): 24
The rest set at "auto" (default)

You might want to play around W/Command rate, the R3E Calls this "Timing mode" under the "2nd information". Try 1N, it is preferable to 2N. Auto will work, but I don't know if it will default to 1 or not. Your performance will be better at 1 if your mem can handle it, prob can.
