Overclocking FX 8350 4-8ghz Crosshair V Formula-z

It’s been a year since our FX-8150 and Crosshair V Formula overclocking guide, so we’ve updated it for our AMD fans to cover ROG’s Crosshair V Formula-Z and the new FX-8350 CPU, overclocked to 4.8GHz. As ever, overclocking is never guaranteed. Your mileage will vary depending on the components, such as level of cooling, quality of power and memory and environment (humidity and ambient temperature etc) and of course, the CPU you use as despite having the same FX-8350 name, not all silicon is made equal.

No, I simply can not get (Prime/IBT) stable below 1.488V (1.500V full load).
But as I said before, Core quickly jump to 60-62°C. So i just stop Prime/IBT for fear.
Do you think that (I think) Noctua has no power to cool the CPU?
I mean, I can easily run/finish Frybench on 1.455V, but this is not it. I'm not satisfied with it ... anyway...

I'll try it a couple of days on 1.450-1.475V ... I'll see how it will behave, especially in BF3.

Why are you afraid of those temps? This is where mine runs 24/7 load w/ F@h. I'm not encouraging you to run any warmer than you are comfortable with at all. I'm just curious where you are getting your heat max limit information from. Good luck getting stable. 😄

I monitor temps with HWiNFO64, and sometimes simultaneously with CoreTemp. Purely to make sure that it is not a wrong reading.
Both show the same temps. I'll try again tonight, I just hope that something will not gonna f..k , I mean because of high temp!

The voltage was 1.5 and its core temp not socket. it hit 62 with the h100i fans on quiet, Balanced brought it down to 57.

Using more than one temp assessing application can often cause misreadings! For proper readings you should have ONLY ONE APPLICATION installed at one time...

Also, why do you want to get your system Prime/IBT stable?! That will only mean that your system can run those applications... Did you observed any crashes during your regular usage?

I would suggest only one testing program for getting 24/7 stable system: memtest86+... if that passes at least 4 cycles, then you start installing your OS and using your pc... if it crashes after that, it's about small adjustments...

Thank you for the guide 🙂
While I couldn't hit 4.8 stable prime had core warning failure in 15 minutes on custom blend or max heat .. I'm quite stable at 4.7 at 1.476 1.488 under load. 52c while running FAH.

At stock speed and settings I'd notice when turbo kicked in the cpu would touch 4.1 1/2 and needed 1.456 to do so..never saw it hit 4.2 ever.

Sweet! Been thinking about getting Arctic's Accelero Hybrid 7970 for my dual-x so I don't have to attached everything with zip-ties xD
