overclocking failed on deluxe ii

mjohnson24

i have the Asus x99 Deluxe ii Mobo, (4) 16gb sticks of Gskill Trident Z 3200mhz ram, Evga 1200w P2 PSU, Intel i7 6900k, EVGA GTX 1080 FTW Gaming ACX 3.0, Samsung EVO 950 Pro M.2. I have recently just last night updated the PSU from an 850 watt to an EVGA 1200w P2. This one has the ability to use the 8 pin power and 4 pin power as the previous PSU didnt. Now that i got it all installed last night, for somereason when i booted it only said i had 32gbs of ram when i actually had 64. Got that to read correctly now but my ram is the 3200mhz ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820232328 ). Its on the QVL list for Asus so thats good. I think it has something to do with something being overclocked or something but i dont know what. it worked fine before with my 850watt.

I have XMP switch turned on on the Mobo and in the bios i think i switched it to auto or something to get it to actually boot normally. But bios reads it as 2133 not 3200 like it should i think.

Now i also have the Corsair h100i gtx cpu cooler and when i booted my PC it said something about fan speed to low or check fan speed so to fix that i had to go to bios and go to monitor tab and set "CPU Fan Speed" to ignore so i wouldnt get that error and it would boot as well.

Can someone help me with steps to what i need to do to fix these issues. Also if you know of any bios changes that needs to happen for M.2 samsung 950 pro evo that needs to be changed let me know. Its booting and working fine so far but not sure if theres anything that needs to be changed in the bios.

Hi mjohnson24

If you did a windows UEFI install "windows boot manager" should be set as boot priority 1.

Setting the cpu fan to ignore is good and you can control it with the corsair link software.

You can use XMP or set your ram manually and to get 64GB stable at 3200MHz you'll likely need to rasie the cpu vccio voltage and cpu system agent voltage. It varies from cpu to cpu but generally setting both to 1.15v - 1.25v works well.

Start with both the cpu vccio and cpu system agent voltages at 1.15v and increase in increments of .01v up to 1.25v as needed.

Is there a place where i can g to see what i need to set in bios and in what order and all to get things set so my ram reads 3200mhz not 2133 and my CPU is set so its still stable and not too hot that the h100i gtx i have wont cool it enough? Never done this before so i wanna make sure i set the correct options in bios for cpu and ram to get it to 3200mhz and cpu stable.

I know XMP is right now enabled but it gives me an error saying overclock failed so i guess that means im not setting something correctly or have to do it manually?

Is your ram a single 64GB kit or are you using two 32GB kits? If you purchased a single 64GB kit this is good, combining memory kits even of the same specs can give you problems especially with XMP and you'll want to try setting your ram manually.

64GB of 3200MHz ram is not plug and play and you will need to raise the voltages I mentioned above, the cpu vccio voltage and cpu system agent voltage are located on the extreme tweaker tab.

Try both at 1.15v and see if it goes, if you still get the overclocking failed message keep raising them .01v, so next would be trying them both at 1.16v, 1.17v, 1.18v up to 1.25v until it boots.

Let me know what you end up with. 🙂

Its a single 64gb kit. Ill try setting it and seeing where it goes from there. Right now i got the AI overclocking tuner set to xmp i think it is and xmp is enabled do i need to set that differently in order to set the voltages of the two things u mentioned?

ill try that tonight when i get home in about 5 hours and see what it does. Ill post back here the results of what i find.

Now is that also in turn gonna raise the ram to 3200mhz at the same time or what?

Sorry about all the questions and stuff but just not familiar with overclocking and all.

No problem please ask all the questions you have.

Enabling XMP sets your ram its rated specs, it sets the frequency, voltage and timings but it's easy to set your ram manually too.

Set the vccio and cpu system agent voltages to 1.15v then enable XMP and hit F10 and Enter to save and exit. If you still get the overclocking failed message keep raising these voltages .01v up to 1.25v until it boots.

To set your ram manually:

1) AI Overclock Tuner - Manual
2) Dram Frequency - 3200MHz
3) Dram voltage - 1.35v
4) CPU VCCIO voltage - 1.15v
5) CPU System Agent voltage - 1.15v

Go to Dram Timing Control and at the very top enter in the first 4 timings of your ram kit and set command rate to 2. The timings can be found on the box they came in and on each stick.

Again if it doesn't go, raise the cpu vccio and cpu system agent voltages .01v up to 1.25v until it boots.

Yes please post your results. 🙂

Oh ok cool. Ill try all that tonight like i mentioned and see what happens. Would it be better to set ram to XMP and let it do its thing and then set the vccio and cpu system voltages like u mentioned or set ram manually with dram freq, voltage and timing control? Or try both and see what happens?

Again thanks for your help so far with all my questions and all. I can build computers all day and get em up and running but the overclocking part isnt something ive done before.

Yeah anything over 2133MHz on the ram is considered overclocked. 🙂

Well ill be home soon so ill test it and play with it in the next couple hours and hopefully get back to you with a positive outcome.
