overclocking failed on deluxe ii

mjohnson24
Level 9
i have the Asus x99 Deluxe ii Mobo, (4) 16gb sticks of Gskill Trident Z 3200mhz ram, Evga 1200w P2 PSU, Intel i7 6900k, EVGA GTX 1080 FTW Gaming ACX 3.0, Samsung EVO 950 Pro M.2. I have recently just last night updated the PSU from an 850 watt to an EVGA 1200w P2. This one has the ability to use the 8 pin power and 4 pin power as the previous PSU didnt. Now that i got it all installed last night, for somereason when i booted it only said i had 32gbs of ram when i actually had 64. Got that to read correctly now but my ram is the 3200mhz ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820232328 ). Its on the QVL list for Asus so thats good. I think it has something to do with something being overclocked or something but i dont know what. it worked fine before with my 850watt.

I have XMP switch turned on on the Mobo and in the bios i think i switched it to auto or something to get it to actually boot normally. But bios reads it as 2133 not 3200 like it should i think.

Now i also have the Corsair h100i gtx cpu cooler and when i booted my PC it said something about fan speed to low or check fan speed so to fix that i had to go to bios and go to monitor tab and set "CPU Fan Speed" to ignore so i wouldnt get that error and it would boot as well.

Can someone help me with steps to what i need to do to fix these issues. Also if you know of any bios changes that needs to happen for M.2 samsung 950 pro evo that needs to be changed let me know. Its booting and working fine so far but not sure if theres anything that needs to be changed in the bios.

I would stand clear of using AI Suite for now there is an issue with AI Suite and the newer nvidia driver library and I'm not sure it's been resolved. I don't use it and do my overclocking manually in the bios. If you're new to the UEFI bios and overclocking I know it can look overwhelming but you can let most settings on auto and just play with the multiplier and the cpu core voltage, but before you overclock your cpu let's see if we can get your ram stable.

I'm anxious to know if it goes with up to 1.45v on the Dram voltage and up to 1.368v on the cpu system agent voltage, hopefully it won't need that much with the bump in the Dram voltage.

I'm looking forward to your update. 🙂

The cpu temperature controls how far you can overclock it so the better your cooling the further you can overclock it.

Yea im looking forward to it too. Ill definitely keep u posted on it. If i can try tonight ill try it or atleast by sunday. hopefully if my friend comes to help me. But as for cpu cooling i have a Corsair h100i gtx for cooling. At somepoint i may invest in ekwb stuff with a 360rad and the pump/reservoir combo that fits in a 5.25 bay up front instead of a cylinder style reservoir jsut because of my case and the room i dont have much in a HAF 932 advanced AMD edition case. I plan on getting a second evga 1080 ftw gaming acx3.0 card and at that point i may or may not do custom watercooling. Jsut depends on the temp of both cards when gaming.

Playing WoW my single card gets to around 70-73c so the card below it would be a little hotter possibly but that will be a while.

But like i said ill keep u posted here for sure on it and let you know what i tweaked and what the settings were and what all of its running at.

Now these are old as the power supply has been changed to an evga 1200w P2 PSU and cleaned up wiring more but give u an idea. My dad passed away august of last year and this was his case and he loved black/red theme so im workign on making it all black/red.

Nice rig , thanks for the pics 🙂

I was also wondering if updating the bios might help with your ram stability, you could try that too.

Your temps are fine but with two 1080's gpu 1 will run hotter and your psu looks like it could partially starve gpu 2. For your particular case it would probably be good to liquid cool two 1080's and your cpu with....

Something like this?

http://koolance.com/rp-1250-reservoir-and-pump

And then of course EK's top radiator.

https://www.ekwb.com/shop/ek-coolstream-xe-360-triple

It performs just as well as these rads which a 360 rad can cool quad sli, so you should be fine cooling two 1080's and your cpu with one 360 rad.

Click on the performance chart.

Yea i was actually gonna work on getting that exact ek radiator u linked to but the pump reservoir i was looking at was possibly this one. Their 360 xe rad with their 2200rpm fans and the below pump/reservoir and their red coolant pre mixed stuff with 10/13mm soft tubing.

https://www.ekwb.com/shop/ek-dbay-d5-pwm-mx-acetal-incl-pump

Ill have to look at the one u posted but its a bit more in price though than ek's. I have limited space in the case but a 360 will work on top for sure but wouldnt be able to put any other radiators in the case at all. But yea it should cool two 1080's and my 6900k with no issues and i think ek said the same thing as well. at some point i may work on getting a better case and using this one as my Amd 8 core case that had my dads install on it that my mom and everyone else used. I was looking at the phanteks cases but thats a little while from now as well as the ek watercooling. Ill post the parts i was looking at getting from ek for that upgrade at some point and see what ya think.

As for bios i actually updated it already to the latest i think either yesterday or earlier in the week cant remember. But its at version 1401. Actually i thin k that was the one i was working with the other day overclocking.

The PSU in these pics are 850w but i actually replaced it already before the overclocking with a 1200w evga P2 PSU which i think should be plenty of power for all the crap i got in it.

CPU: Intel i7 6900k (not OC'd)
RAM: 64gb GSkill TridentZ F4-3200C16Q-64GTZ (4x16gb)
Motherboard: ASUS X99 Deluxe ii
Hard Drives: samsung 950 Evo Pro M.2 SSD ( main, Apps ), 480gb SSD ( games ), 1.5 TB WD, 1tb, 2tb
CPU Cooler: Corsair h100i GTX

Yeah keep it all EK I was using the koolance as an example.

All right bios is updated to 1401 which is the latest for your motherboard so good there.

The EVGA 1200w is more than enough power, I bet it runs nice and cool too.

I'd like to see the parts you pick out when it comes time to do it so yeah post them any time or send me a pm. I did liquid cooling too and this last time I went with Mayems ultra clear tubing and I haven't had any problems with it so far. The size of the fittings of course will determine the size of your tubing.

Nice build! yea i was planning keeping it all the same using ek if i do them or someone else so i know everything will fit for sure and no issues later. I tried adding my Mobo in the loop like urs according to the ek configurator and it said the 360rad wasnt enough on its own for two video cards, cpu and mobo chips. Maybe one day when i get a better and bigger case or one with alot more room ill look into adding that in to the mix. My main issue is i need space inside for my drives to fit as well as dvdrom that i still use every once in a while which i could probably get by using a usb style external cdrom with no big deal really.

Yea the 1200w PSU runs really quiet if eco is turned on cause the fan dont even run if its below 50c. But with it turned off u can hear it for sure but it runs cool though yea.

Thanks ! 🙂

According to the performance chart with the nemesis gtx a 360 rad can dissipate up to 1800w so how can you even be close to that when you only have a 1200w psu?

yea i was just going by what their website said on the pdf i attached. Yea the Nemesis would be good if it disipates that much but according to eks configurator if i did two gtx 1080's, my 6900k cpu and the mobo chipset along with that it says a 360rad wont be enough according to their configurator again like i said. I dont really have no idea honestly.

Here is the black ice nemesis 360 gtr which is even a little better than the gtx with a 1950w rating, the gtx and gtr can handle cooling everything.

Are you able to get your ram to 3200MHz, give us an update what you've tried.

Have you used the nemesis before? Cant remember if u said u did or not but i was gonna check into them more and see what they offer and the cost of what id need and be getting from EKWB and compare it. Or maybe use that rad and maybe pump/reservoir of theirs and ek's blocks but not sure. Ill definitely check them out more and keep them in mind.

As for the overclocking not yet. Didnt get a chance last night. Something came up but i plan on it between late this evening and the weekend.

but depends on how long that nemesis rad is and thick if im able to fit one in the back for a 120 or 140. I think my case can do 120 or 140 in back but have to look but if so that would help with cooling for sure. Cause then i can go from pump/reservoir in front > video cards > 120 or 140 rad > cpu and/or mobo chips etc > 360 rad and back to pump/reservoir and let the 360 rad cool it even more. but then that also depends on room i have. i know a 360 is the biggest i can fit and i can fit the 60mm thick rad in it and still have room for fans on bottom for push effect.

Your opinion? This will be my first custom watercooled pc as in the past and still am a little skeptic of em cause i hear horror stories of em leaking.
