Optional North Bridge Fan

Retired

Hello,

I've been using my RFIII for a few weeks now and have been considering using the optional NB fan that came with the motherboard. However, the instructions explicitly warn that using the NB fan in conjunction with a CPU air cooler will threaten the stability of the system. I honestly don't think a little extra turbulence is that severe, and would like to lower my NB temperatures if possible as they are on the high side (~50 deg C) at idle.

Has anyone had any experience with using this NB fan? I'm currently using a Corsair A70 air cooler with push/pull fan configuration (pulling the air from across the RAM and pushing it out the back of the case).

Any advice or dire warnings before I attempt this?

rampage 3 formula doesnt come with a northbridge fan. are you talking about the fan that goes on the vrm heatsinks?

Yes.. I apologize.. that is what I meant; the VRM heatsink fan. Apparently I didn't have my facts straight.

Anyway, would installing this fan be problematic if I were using a CPU air cooler? Would it help with NB or SB temperatures?

Thank you.

So...does anyone have any experience with the VRM heatsink fan at all? Interested in how you guys lower your temperatures across this board. Thanks

Hey bro. Installed that little fan on the heatsink not 2 days ago. Im using a titan fenrir cooler. It dropped the temps 1-2 degrees. And it doesn't affect my cpu cooler at all. Runs between 2000-3000 rpm and makes no noise.

you can always try using an antec spotcool

I actually have one of those I forgot about. Will try it. Ill post results. Ill aim it at the southbridge heatsink.

HI. Did you ever try this and get some positive results? My NB and SB are running rather hot, I'm looking for solutions.

Simply have good airflow over the system, and do not worry to much. The X58 platform was warmer than say today's Z77 or the X79 chipsets.
