older rampage iv windows 10 support

Greetings AOG,

I'm currently using a Rampage IV Extreme motherboard (bf3 edition) with a Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3930K CPU @ 3.20GHz, 3201 Mhz, 6 Core(s), 12 Logical Processor(s), I have been greeted with the new Windows 10 reserve offer, I'm currentlty using Windows 7 as the base OS with the base BIOs,
The reserve checker shows no issues with upgrading to the newer platform however I'm yet to see Asus give the green light on the upgrade path for Windows 10.

Ideally I'd like to know the following.

• Will Asus support Windows 10 on older ROG Motherboards such as the Rampage IV (BF3)
  
• What steps will need to take place for someone to upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 with any driver/firmware changes.
  
• What are the overall risks of upgrading from Windows 7 to 10. If for example Windows 10 fails to install or Asus doesn't provide the right drivers can I go back to Windows 7?
  

My Motherboard specs are as follows.

Intel® Core™i7 Six Core Processor i7-3930K (3.2GHz) 12MB Cache
32GB KINGSTON HYPERX GENESIS QUAD-DDR3 1600MHz X.M.P(8 x 4GBKIT)

Note in the past I've had problems with X.M.P when upgrading to the newer BIOS. In the end the PC company decided to keep my BIOS on the factory new version.

While I certainly agree it's good news they've added a Windows 10 drivers section, I wouldn't say 3 drivers, one of which is in beta, is official driver support:

I really hope they'll be updating this soon as Windows 10 releases in just 5 days.

I am seriously concerned particularly about the Formula edition (my model), specifically audio drivers. If they don't release a compatible Realtek and Sound Blaster X-Fi MB 2 driver, I don't know what I'll do. Better hope that the Windows 8 version works (because the Realtek one for 8.1 doesn't even work; I have to use 8). I really don't want to have to buy a soundcard just because SupremeFX III won't work correctly on Windows 10, as one of the main reasons I picked the Formula over the Extreme was so I didn't need a separate soundcard.

Any news on audio driver support on the RIVF? Would it be worth making a separate thread?

So we dont have Sound driver (Creative), USB 3 driver & sata, i'm not worried about usb3 & sata, i know for sure Creative wont update their drivers for W10.

ChiefZeke, out of interest are you using Windows 8.1 drivers? We might have to use them as our "un-offical" windows 10 drivers if ASUS isn't going to update the firmware. It's a real shame 😞

Maeldor, I have just checked the Creative Technologises site, Unfortunately it seems you wont be getting any sound card drivers on the launch of Windows 10, See http://support.creative.com/kb/ShowArticle.aspx?sid=126331

For anyone whom is using the latest Z card the current timeline for getting the drivers out is August 2015, for anything below that it's October 2015... What a joke!


as for the embedded realtek soundcard you can download the lastest drivers at http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsCheck.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&Down...

It's basically a beta version of the driver for windows 10, some are reporting blue screens so be advised. Might wait a couple of weeks before doing the upgrade.

Thanks for checking. I think I can't see Sound Blaster X-Fi MB 2 on there because it's basically just a software suite, not a sound card. I'm hoping the Windows 8 version will still work. If I can manage to install it, I think the problem will be getting it to recognise that my hardware's supported, because the Realtek drivers seem to mess this up even on 8.1 if I use the newer versions.

I have some good news regarding the Creative sound drivers. I've just clean installed Windows 10 Pro x64 and by using Realtek Audio Driver V6.0.1.6699 (using Driver\Setup.exe rather than AsusSetup.exe) and Sound Blaster X-Fi MB 2 Utility V1.04.02 both located under Windows 8 64bit on the support page, it works perfectly fine!, just as it did on Windows 8.1.

Now, unfortuantely, the Realtek driver is dated 2012/10/22, but it's the only one I've gotten to work with the X-Fi MB 2. If anyone finds a newer one that works, I'd appreciate a notice as I don't like being on such an old driver. I think I might look into a new sound card soon because of this; one that supports Windows 10 with newer drivers.

Quick question guys, I'm using an older BIOS version that uses ROM instead of CAP. Should I upgrade to CAP before upgrading to Windows 10. I am not wanting to upgrade to UEFI so I'm looking just to keep my bios as it is. Do I really need to upgrade to CAP from ROM?

If you're committed to your existing bios hold of updating since the Asus download site for the motherboard shows the entire bios list under the Windows10 compliant downloads.

I'm now running Windows 10, On the factory supported BIOS. Had to use the Intel Rapid Storage for Windows 8.1 thought (as the most recent ones are not supported by my platform.)

The chipset and Management engine are running on the WHQL drivers. I have also installed the Lenovo Windows 10 drivers for Soundblaster Z (they work absolutely fine!)

Yes we have 2 windows 10 drivers lol.. One for network and one for chipset. Performing a clean install however I also had to install the 8.1 MEI drivers, the Win 8.1 RST drivers and still had one device which is not installed!

It's showing as Device Instance ID is ROOT\NET\0000

No idea what it is as everything seems to be working fine including the network card, but read something about it being possibly NIC related.... anyone else try a clean install? (btw upgrade works fine and doesn't leave any drivers missing from Win 8.1).

btw - don't expect sound card drivers, even the phoebus range of ROG products which are currently being sold ain't got any new Win10 drivers yet lol
