Offset OC with Asus rampage IV Gene [Solved]

Hi all,

I have three rampage iv gene mobos as part of a rendering farm. I would like to overclock them but I have a bit of a nightmare with offset settings. I want a 24/7 overclock with speedstep power savings.

The mobos have bios 4804

A 3930k @4.3ghz B 3930k @4.2Ghz C 3960x @ 4.2 ghz
A 16gb ram 4x4 Kingston 1600mhz @ 1.5v - B 32GB geil 2400 (i am running it lower at 1.5v) C 16gb 4x4 corsair dominator 1600mhz @ 1.5v
A GTX 580 3GB B.GTX 680 4GB C GTX 680 + quadro 4000
A.OCZ 700W (don't remember the title) B. Corsair 860i C 1000W Silverstrone Strider
solid state drives and a single HD each
all runnning windows 8.1 pro

I Also have asus p9x79 pro with a 3960x 64gb ram and quadros which is our main workstation. i changed the multiplier to 42 changes the over-clocking to offset (+auto) and it is stable. It runs at 4.2ghz when rendering at 1.34v and idle is 1.2 ghz at 0.8v

I don't understand OC very well but i read quite a few articles around.

My problem is that with the three R4G the voltage stays the approximately the same ! 1.3 to 1.38 maximum.
The clock works as expected on idle. from 4.2Ghz to 1.2 Ghz.
I am not sure what is the problem i have tried quite a lot of settings but no luck. I can run the machines stable with manual settings but i am really interesting in using speedstep properly.
I am also a bit confused with the EPu power saving setting (it is off by default ) I turn all the power saving settings on speedstep - c step and epu.
Another weird thing is that even though i have plus in the offset i get a lower voltage on high load in one machine! Is there any guide on how to do proper offset mild OC ?

Thanks

I spend some more time in the morning today changing the settings trying to have some dynamic voltage. I also discovered that there are epu settings in AI suite II but they don't change anything.
If i enable the epu and voltage downgrade (i assume that might be the function i am searching for) nothing changes the voltage remains the same at 1.32. My machine is stable at 1.32v with a multiplier of 42. I was really impressed with the Asus p9x79 pro and this is why I convinced everybody to go with rampage mAtx to save space. As I understand ROG is not tailored for energy efficiency or i miss something in bios settings.
My settings so far

I tried AI overclock Manual and Auto
multiplier 42
blck 100
ram at stock 1.5v 1600mhz (doesn't affect our performance much ~ 0.4%)

vcore A. I tried offset and i tried manual too ... i believe that between 1.32 and 1.33 p95 reports no problems. I also tried auto too in both settings.

Cpu power phase control i used asus optimised and tried also auto
Cpu LLC i tried a few different settings from 110% to 140%. now it is in auto.
Power duty control i tried extreme and t.probe.

speedstep is on
turbo is on
power limit control is auto
cpu states are auto (but i tried enabling all too)

Whatever i do the voltage remains the same... Sometimes it becomes unstable too.

The machine i am working on now has a
RG4 bios 4804
16GB ram Corair vengeance 1600 1.5v 4x4gb
3960x
SSD 256gb and 3 TB HD x2 (no raid)
1000w silverstone strider 80% plus silver ( it worked properly on another machine but it is a bit old.)
H100i on an aerocool dead silence cube case.

I have another two machines with RG4 and 3930k but I am trying to fix this one first and see what happens with the others. Is it possible that AI suite II causes a problem should i uninstall it. I am a bit concerned what takes priority in the settings is it the bios or AI suite ?
For example if i eneable EPU in Ai suite it doesn't appear in the bios as enabled, I assume that it gets in software mode ... not that it works but i am just saying.

I have progressed a bit ! miraculously in one attempt after a total cmos clear out i manage to make the offset fluctuate from 0.84v to 1.362v.

The reported voltage at the bios was ~1.2v then I put an offset of 0.045 where things seem stable so far 1.2Ghz at 0.84v to 4.2Ghz at 1.362v.
I deactivated all AI suite EPU settings just incase they interfered with the grand plan.
Settings
AI tuner - Manual
BLCK - 100(default)
CPU strap - auto
Clockgen Full Reset -Enabled
Cpu Core RAtio - Sync All Cores
1-Core Ratio Limit 42
Internal PLL Overvoltage - Auto
CPU clock Gen Filter - Auto
Dram settings as xmp (copied them from the /tool/SPD information
Digi power control settings
CPu LLC regular
CPU Capability 110%
Duty control Extreme
Power phase control Asus Optimised.
all the rest as auto
Speedstep Auto
Turbo mode Enabled
Power limit Control Auto.

Extreme OV Disabled
Offset Mode (1.190v) reports + 0.045
All the rest is auto apart from the voltage of the dram that i put as 1.5v (in fact i put it 1.515v which i am not sure if it is ok )

Now I face a new problem though the full load goes 1.37v which i know it is too much because with manual i could have it stable from 1.32 to 1,34. The second and more important problem is that it crashes on idle sometimes ! Like you are doing p95 for three hours and then you close the program and BSOD!!! So i need to fine tune it but not sure how ... if i reduce the offset it doesn't even boot i will try to increase the LLC or something like that and reduce the offset ... Ideally i would love to have it at 0.9v to 1.33v at full load @ 42 ghz ... It takes a long time to tune it !

This is Solved i did a new post regarding my low voltage problem.
