Odd problem with H77i

I bought a P8H77i/i5-3570k for building the Lian Li "train" case. Very tight fit but the H77i layout is perfect for this case/psu combination. The 1st mobo fired off and everything set up fine, when I moved the case to it's permanent home and powered up it would not start W7. Check bios setting and it had reverted back to it's basic default setting including ide mode so W7 installed with ahci does not start. I replaced the button battery with a new one with good date code. I double checked the jumper position, all OK. Still does the same thing, when removed for the AC power source the bios reverts to default, unplug the psu or flip the psu switch to off. As long as AC power is not removed it operates normally. Took a minor OC, it's dead quiet and no heat...and it looks like a locomotive steam engine.

I rma that board, 16 days later a new board shows up, I power it up on the bench and this one trips the psu in 3-4 seconds. Try with a second psu, same thing...urg! OK, now I'm in rma #2, 17 days later I get still another board. I check this one on the bench and it fires up, GREAT.. wife is bitching about when she gets her new puter. I install this (my mistake) before I check if my first bios issue was still a problem. It was, same as the first mobo, bios goes to default when removed from AC paoer. Try the new battery, check the jumper, nothing fixes this. Mobo #3 is on it's way back. I have a NIB Crossfire V Formula-Z here I'm afraid to open now.

This is a odd problem, I do see other posts about it when I google it., so I'm not the only one. I guess I could live with it, I mean how often does the power go out, not often around here. Still, I paid for a new mobo, it should meet spec. I don't think it can be a mobo short, that would trip the psu, plus it runs fine except when you unplug it. Any ideas?
