Noob Here, Bios not showing, CPU Q_LED when I press reset.

Hi there, I would like everyone to know this is my first build on my own, so please be very specific on what I need to do if possible. Thank you!

Mobo: Crosshair V Formula
CPU: AM3+ FX 3.1 ghz black edition.
Ram: G.Skill 1600 4gb (I think...)
GPU: EVGA 560
PSU: Corsair gs800
(Anything else I need to say?)

Ok well my problem is that, everything boots up correctly (I assume) all the stuff turns on. CPU is definitely working as it is warm to the touch after, GPU fan is operational so I assume that it is on as well. I have all the power cables plugged in correctly (again, I assume). What happens though is that the Q LED is not on for the CPU unless I hold the on board or chassis reset button, then the LED lights up red. Also, I have 1 4gb mem stick in as of now and I am just really looking for a solution. I hope it is as simple as I dun goofed. Anyways, please LMK ASAP.

Look at the red LEDs when you start the system, they should light up one by one. If one stays lit or one flashes then the system turns off you can see what is causing the problem.

Well, that is the problem. Is that the CPU LED only lights up when I hit the reset button. It stays on for as long as I want. Only does it do that when I hit reset. But still no BIOS. No flashing or anything.

what happens when you turn it on and you just stand there.
what do you see?
any beeps?
any activity on the screen at all..??
listen and watch..dont touch..post back...

this is assuming that you followed the ram setup by raja..
and read the stickys in crosshair V.. Welcome....c.

Ok, I know this sounds silly but I have a question here as this is your first build. On the MB next to your CPU there should be a 4-8 pin additional power connector. You have that connected right? (I apologize as I am thinking very basic here).

First of all welcome to the forum and I hope you will have many years of pleasure with your motherboard.

Now I strongly suggest that you go spend some time reading and playing around with the settings that Raja has explained. Do not be in any kind of rush. With over-clocking your system the pleasure is more in the journey than the actual outcome. So work through the guide I linked at the top of the page and you will find most of the solutions to questions you did not even know you had.

Yes, I have been referred to Raja's guide before but I don't see anything of use to my problem. I am 90% sure I have it built correctly, it is just not POSTing or showing the bios. It stays on once turned on but still no bios or anything.

I am not trying to over-clock or anything at the moment, I am actually trying to get the BIOS on my screen first and figure out why the Q_LED's of the board are lit. Thanks though I will bookmark that guide for when I get my problem solved.

No problem LazySnake (don't even want to think what that name is all about) 🙂

What keyboard are you using?

What BIOS version are you running? You can use CPUz on the main board page to see which version firmware you have.

Have you inspected each and every PSU power connector for loose contacts or wires that are not correctly secured?

So you have not been able to get into BIOS at all? Start pressing the DEL button as soon as you reboot and keep a steady even tap tap going. You should get in that way.

Haha thank you, I will try when I have time. Also, in my defense (I get this a lot too, it isn't an E.D. thing) It is a combination of me, who is Lazy, and my favorite video game character, Solid Snake.

Jeez talk about confused.

First it is lazy now the blighter is solid - well I guess you can be lazy and solid 😄 😄
