Noctua NH-D14 GPU clearance on GENE

Hi there,

I'm looking to get the GENE V for my (first!) build on the release of Ivy Bridge. I've heard it may have heat issues, but I'm looking to overclock anyways so I'm thinking of getting the Noctua NH-D14.

However, I heard that with the Maximus IV GENE-z the fan clips touched the card in the upper PCIE slot. Will this be the same with the Maximus V Gene? If so, what could I do? I'm very concerned with getting this cooler and then not having it fit. Are both the red PCIE slots on the mobo identical, so I could put the GPU in the bottom slot instead? Or would just taping the clips be suffice?

And I presume the fans (3-pin) won't be controllable? I'll just stick a LNA resistor on it and keep it at 900RPM...

Works - using 2nd PCIe means GPU @ PCIe x8.

Wifi you got to buy yourself - only the mpcie/msata adapter is in the accessoiries.

There doesn't seem to be many mPCIe cards available here in the UK. That's why I was hoping it may be bundled with certain editions of the mobo.

There are many ... just look for mini pci express wifi or wlan. There is even a bigfoot available.

But you will need pigails and antennas too. so propably wait for something from Asus.

I do know that on my IV Extreme-Z my NH-D14 had clearance issues with the RAM - I had to remove the second fan because my Mushkin Redline's heatsinks were too tall.

I can't speak much for the GENE-V, but I can say good call on the Noctua. Best cooler I've ever used. :cool:

If you havent already bought the NH-D14, have a look at the NH-C14, it may work better for you space needs and performance wise, its only slightly behind the D14

I'm about to buy asus maximus v gene with Noctua NH-D14.

And here's my question: Will cooler collide with new GTX670 asus Direct CU II?
