No post - Crosshair V Formula

Hello there I'm having issues with my cf5

Here's what I've got in it

  • XFX Radeon HD 7950 3GB
  • 2x4GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1866 - CMZ8GX3M2A1866C9R
  • AMD Bulldozier FX8150
  • Seagate Barracuda 2TB HDD
  • Samsung Blu-Ray Combo
  • Corsair 750w PSU

When I first switched it on, no video, I thought it was any connection issue, so I disconnected auxiliary devices (HDD and Blu-Ray), no avail. I thought it was CPU with any bent pins, but no, CPU seems just fine. Then I switched GPU, no. Then I thought it was BIOS related issue towards compliance with fx8150, got a Sempron 140, but no, still no POST.

There are other few things I've noticed, when the mobo switches on, the DRAM leds flashes three times after the first red flash in the following pattern, first flash medium speed, halt, a quick second and third flashes in sucession and the third flash that is slower than the others. Also this is inconsistent with pressing the go button, in which the dram leds stay on and as time passes by it starts to blink faster and faster.

so is it memory or did I get a bad mobo case?

Thanks in advance

Are you speaking of the red led's just above the power block ?

What bios does this board have ? (found on one of the pci-e lanes -- the last numbers are the bios)

Those led's should blink in succession .. during boot ..
do you have a sys speaker attached .. do you get beeps ?

of the four points around the board with led's (in the manual) are those red ? green ?
or is this the led you speak of ?

Welcome to ROG.c.

they are three red leds, I think they are DRAM_LEDS, I've seen somewhere that this memory stick (CMZ8GX3M2A1866C9R) causes instability, so it doesn't power on, could this no post be related to this?

Try posting with one stick, if a no go, try the other by itself.
More than likely it's memory related or another issue could be your PSU.
You have a good Corsair PSU unit, so I'm leaning towards the memory as the culprit.

Use the bare minimum of hardware in your system to try and get to the BIOS screen. One stick of memory in the furtherest slot is a good idea indeed.

What I would also do is make sure that all the 12v CPU connectors are fully populated.

Man, I've tried everything, the PSU is properly connected to the MB, the CPU connectors are correct and not bent, it seems either a bad MOBO or Memory

for the heck of it. Check and make sure the dimms are istalled correctly. Snapped all the way in. if it is and you did what Hiviz said to do with 1 stick all the way to the right in the last slot. then See if you can get a stick from someone to try. if that doesn't work it is time to RMA

Being ingnorant and ingnored one post at a time.

I've swapped the memory from all positions, I've searched on the internet this memory don't work with AMD Crosshair series.

I don't have a beeper to find out what kind of problem I'm having, but the mobo gives a hint it is related to DRAM, is it supposed to be normal that the DRAM_LEDS blinks red lights 4 times (the first only long with a interval, and two quicks flashes interval, and another long one)?

I'm afraid of wasting money by buying another memory when the issue actually resides on the mobo

richard_ba if your system will not post even with the other CPU I would be inclined to think that it is your motherboard. If possible I would borrow one stick or ram from a neighbour or a friend. Just test your board with any ram (DDR3 of course)
